*the next day*
"Can I please stay home sick!?" I said to Aunt Nina, max and I were the only kids still in school.
"No! You stayed home sick last week. I don't understand what the big deal is." She said folding my clothes that I laid out the night before. I turned towards the wall as J walked in. He rolled me off the bed and picked me up bridal style. He set me down next to my clothes and walked out. I groaned loudly just as max walked in.
"I'm trying to change." I said impatiently.
"Into what? A frog?" He said earning a chuckle from Aunt Nina. I rolled my eyes and he left.
"Aunt Nina, I know I have Max in every single class, but it's not the same. I don't have any friends..." I said putting my tank top on. It was yellow and it buttoned up to my neckline.
"Oh Chinita. I know it's hard. But this is your last year." Chinita mean sweety in Spanish. None of my family is Spanish, but when my great grandfather became king of the pack. He traveled to Mexico. Aunt Nina kissed my forehead and walked out. I quickly put my pants on and grabbed my one strap bag. It had our packs symbol on it. It was a big oval with slashes going through it. It meant peace. I also had a tattoo on my upper left shoulder of the symbol. All of my family has it, we were born with it. I ran out to the kitchen just as max was about to leave.
------
"I still don't understand why Mrs. Murphy makes us do those stupid rituals. It's going against our pack." He said as we walked down to lunch. Obviously it was our favorite period.
"Nina told us to just sit there and act like we were paying attention." I said shifting my bag onto my right should. Max sighed as we walked into the cafeteria with our lunch bags. We always had to eat healthy. We say down at our usual table. When all the other boys went to our school, nobody sat at our table. J freaked everyone out to much. Max and I were known as the nice kids that nobody wanted to talk too. Just as I opened my bag a tall brown haired boy sat next to Max. Max growled and scooted over a little. The stranger looked at max.
"Mind if I sit here mate?" He had a hint of an Australian accent. Max nodded and released his grip on his sandwich. It was to crumpled to eat so he just put it away. He looked at me, his eyes turning black.
"Max..." I said quietly across the table. "Don't." The stranger looked at me.
"Ello" he said shyly. I smiled as Maxs hand started to twitch.
"This is my cousin, max." I said kicking Max under the table. Maxs eyes turned brown again and he looked at the stranger.
"Nice to meet you Max!" He said cheerfully.
"I'm Sammi." I said holding my hand out. He shook it.
"Why are you sitting here" Max said politely as possible.
"My friends are in a meeting for something with the school." He said. "I'm sorry if I'm intruding."
"Yes" Max said as I said no. I turned to max.
"Maxwell James Quinn!" I scared myself at how loud I was. He stared at me with a surprised look... I never use his middle name. My cousins and I all have the same middle name, it meant wolf. I was always afraid someone would look up what our middle name meant. But for the past 18 years, I've been fine. I laughed at his face, fear was plastered all over it. I realized I was standing up, so I say back down and giggled. Max's face dropped and he smiled at me.
"Gee, Sam, never knew you knew my middle name." He said chuckling. I heard The stranger get up.
"I should get going. I've got football." He said politely
"Wait, what's your name?" I said before he walked away.
"Connor." He said.
"See you around Connor" Max and I said at the same time. Earning a chuckle from our new friend.
"See Max and Sammi" He said as he walked away.
"Sam, what does Connor mean again?" Max said suspiciously.
"Wolf- Lover." I said slowly. We both gasped and started a chorus of laughter.
----
"Dude, we need to hang out with him one time!" Max said when 9th period ended. We walked to our lockers, which were of course next to eachother. And grabbed our books we needed. I laughed and nodded my head.
"Yeah, well, I was hoping to find a friend that was a girl." I said sighing. Max put his arm around my shoulder.
"He said he had other friends, there might be a friend for you." He smiled and we walked out to his black ford. I hoped into the passenger seat as Max hoped into the drivers. Right before Max started the car Connor ran up to Max's side.
"Sammi, Max, I want you to meet some of my other friends. Meet me at The sandwich shop in downtown forks at 6." He said smiling. Max nodded and we drove away.
"That's a far drive. Considering WE LIVE ALL THE WAY IN THE MOUNTAINS!" I said yelling the last part of the sentence. Max chuckled.
"We're not driving silly." He winked and I gasped.
"No, no, no, no!" I yelled at him. He nodded.
"J and Your aunt can't know." He said slyly.
" Max, we can't. We're not allowed to shift that late at night." I said. I was scared. Hunters came out then, I didn't want to be found.
"We can break a rule once in a while! We're always the good kids." He said.
" Max, i..I don't want too. Your supposed to protect me! Not put me in harms way!" I was seriously scared now.
"Just as long as you don't run into another tree you'll be fine." He said chuckling. I sighed as we pulled into the driveway. We sat in the car for a minute. Max turned to me.
"Here's the plan. Skip dinner, well eat at the sandwich shop. Tell Aunt Nina that we both don't feel well and act like your going to bed early. Ill do the same. Meet me in my room at 5:30 and we'll leave then." He said.
"What if she asks how we got sick?" I said, I could see my fingers shaking.
"Tell her it was the liver." He said as he slipped out of the car and into the house, leaving me in the hot car. I sighed as I got out. I looked at the trees in front of our house. We were the only house for miles. I never got sick of the view. Especially when we went hunting for deer. I would take in the view as best as I could. It was breathtaking. I saw something hopped out of the bushes and a bunny appeared. Max called my name as I entered the house. This'll be a fun night.
