Chapter 9

*2 weeks later*

Ever since the night Max left, i had nightmares. Nightmares that he wouldnt ever come home. I went to school feeling as empty as ever. I sat by Mac most of the time, never by Connor. I still had feelings for him, i just couldnt handle talking to him. Mac and i become closer day by day. Alot of times we went hunting together. Once she even went shopping with me, i never go shopping with girls. One afternoon at lunch Connor came and pulled a seat next to us. He sat there staring at us for a little.

"Connor? You ok?" Mac said. 

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Just thinking." He replied. He stood up and walked away. I tilted my head.

"Well then!" I said laughing. 

" I know what happened with Connor, Sam. He told me." She said shyly.

"Oh, well, i dont know if i even like him. Max left 2 weeks ago and i dont know if hes coming back. I'm just confused is all." Mac nodded. 

" I know, its ok." She smiled and we ate the rest of our lunch.

I walked home slowly today. Today felt different. As i walked up to the house i saw an extra car in the driveway and my eyes grew wide. J and Max came around the side of the house and J went inside leaving Max to do whatever he was about to do. I ran up to max and jumped into his arms.

"MAX!" I yelled hugging his neck. He hugged me back. 

"Nice way to be greeted home!" He said laughing. He set me down just as a brown haired girl walked out of the house. 

"Maxxie" She said quietly. Max smiled at her and wrapped his arms around her waist leading her to me. I frowned, that was my nickname for him. 

"Sam, this is Katie." Max said giving her cheek a kiss. I slightly smiled and shook her hand. Katie had dark brown hair and was about 5'4. She had tan skin and blue eyes. Her smile was almost as perfect as Max's abs. 

"Nice to meet you Sam." She said smiling. The way they looked at eachother, they were obviously becoming mates. I frowned.

"Were going up to Montana for a wolf meeting." Max said. "I'll see you in a few days." Katie and Max got into Max's car and backed out of the driveway. I felt tears slid down my cheeks and i quickly wiped them away. I pulled my phone out and called Mac.

"Can you meet me at Checkers in 20 minutes?" I said.

"Sure, whats wrong?" She said concerned.

"I'll tell you when i see you." I shifted and ran into the woods until i reached checkers. My paws thudded and turned into light foot steps as i entered the shop. Mac was waiting for me. She hugged me tight and i told her about Katie.

"What a dick head!" She said loudly and covered her mouth. "Werent you two something?"

"I guess not." I replied "I guess not."
