I wake up and the sun is shinning through the large window above the futon. I must have forgotten to close the blinds last night.
I stand from my bed, and realize I'm still in Lorne's hoodie. My stomach fills with butterflies as I look at myself in the mirror that is waiting to be hung up. It leans on the wall by the doorway, a sticky-note on it says, "Camille's room".
My phone buzzes, so I walk over and unplug it. The clock on the screen says that its' about 10:00 am. I have a new text so I open it.
*Can u put a piece of bread in the toaster 4 me?
-Piper*
I type in a few words and press send.
*Sure, when did u wake up?
-Camille*
*Just now
-Piper*
*K
-Camille*
I tuck my phone into the pocket in Lorne's sweatpants, and walk downstairs. I enter the kitchen and find a bag of bread in a brown paper bag. Than I put two pieces into the toaster behind a large cardboard box on the counter. As I wait for the toast to pop, I find the peanut butter and a butter knife. Than I see a note taped to the fridge.
"Dear Camille and Piper," I read aloud, "Dad and I went to pick up some stuff for school for you two. We'll be back at about 1:00. Please unpack your clothes and put them away in your closets while we're gone. Love you, Mom."
Piper comes into the kitchen just as the toast pops.
"Hey." She says. She rubs her eyes. She wears a neon tank and blue shorts with little white hearts all over it.
"Hey." I say. I grab the peanut butter and smother it on one of the pieces of toast, while Piper grabs the "I can't believe it's not butter!" out of the fridge.
After we eat our toast, we go into the living room, where boxes are stacked against the walls, and grab the one's with our names on them. We carry our boxes upstairs. I go into my room, and unpack my boxes with my clothes in it. I put the clothes in the closet and the dresser on the opposite wall as my bed.
When I'm done, it's a little past noon.
I change into a pair of light wash jean shorts, and keep Lorne's hoodie on. I sit on the futon and look at Lorne's house. Surprisingly, he sits in his living room window on his phone. He looks up and see's me. I wave and he waves back. After a second, he points to himself and than to the front door under my window.
I laugh and give him a thumbs up.
He stands and opens his front door. Than he stuffs his hands into his jean pockets, and walks calmly across the street over to my house, and rings the doorbell.
I laugh to myself and jog downstairs to the door. I open it and am greeted with Lorne's wide smile.
"Hi!" He says, grinning ear to ear.
"Hi! Come on in." I say, stepping aside. He steps inside and slips off his black vans.
"What's up?" He asks.
"Nothing really. I just finished unpacking my clothes."
"Cool." He replies.
"Wanna watch a movie or something?" I ask.
"Sure." He shrugs.
We walk into the living room and turn on the TV.
"Bob's Burgers?" I ask. He nods, so I click on the remote so that it'll play.
Than we both sit on the couch. I lean my head on his shoulder, and butterflies fill me once again. My throat goes dry as I look at his hand. I swallow my fear and grab his hand, curling my fingers around his. I feel both of our hearts beat faster.
After a little while, I relax a little more, and my heart rate slows to a steady pace again, and so does his.
"Do you-" He looks at me, and when we lock eyes, he looks away, staring at the TV, "Would you want to like... go out sometime..."
I gulp.
What? Really?! Of coarse! Yes! Yes! Yes!
"Yeah, sounds fun." I smile at him, and we continue to watch the TV cartoon.
"Cool." He says, grinning to himself.
About half of the way through the episode, Mom and Dad come home.
"We're home!" Dad yells as he opens the door. I hear the car keys fall on the counter with a clatter, and the sound of the ruffling plastic of the store bags.
Mom walks into the living room.
"Oh," She says, surprised when she see's Lorne siting on the couch with me. We quickly separate our hands and I stand up quickly, "Hello Lorne." She says.
"Hello, Mrs. Olson." Lorne says.
"Well..." Mom nods and hands me a plastic bag. "Here's your school supplies Camellia."
"Thanks Mom." I take the bag and smile. Than Mom leaves the room to go find Piper, to give her her supplies.
"Wait so you're going to school tomorrow?" Lorne asks me. standing up beside me.
"Yeah. My Mom thought that it would be good for me to meet some people before the summer." I sigh.
"But we only have like two and a half days left of school."
I shrug.
"Cool. Are you going to have grades?"
"Only ones for participation. But they're more like extra credit. I'm already finished for the year at my old school."
"What classes do you have?" Lorne asks. I shrug and pull out my phone.
"I have it on my phone..." I hand my phone to him.
"Awesome! We have second, third, and fifth period together!" He says.
"Awesome!" I nod back. He hands me back my phone.
"Wait, can I have your phone number? I mean so we can like, talk about school." Lorne asks, blushing.
I laugh and nod. "Yeah." I tell him my number as he types it into his phone. Than we do it again, but the other way around. He tells me his number, while I type it into my phone.
"Thanks." We both say. We laugh.
"Camellia?" Mom calls from the kitchen.
"Yes?"
"Can you please go and unpack some more of your boxes?"
"Sure Mom." I turn back to Lorne.
"I better go." He says. I walk him to the door and he walks out.
"Bye."
"Bye."
We wave to each other as he crosses the street back to his house.
