"Can I go to California with Lorne?" I ask my mom. She's cutting some chicken for dinner.
"No." She says simply.
"Why?" I wine.
"Because of that."
"Because I'm talking?" I cross my arms over my chest.
"No, because you talking back to me, and that isn't okay." Mom says. She doesn't even turn around to look at me as she talks. Just chops away at the chicken meat that looks discussing. It's raw of coarse, but I don't think I'm eating it after seeing all hacked up.
"But that isn't fair!" I yell.
"It is perfectly fair Camellia. Now go do something useful. School has been out for about a week and you still haven't even tried to clean your room." She stops chopping, but doesn't turn to me. Instead, she pours the meat into a pot full of water and something that smells good.
I stomp my foot, waiting for her to react. When she ignores me, I run up the stairs and slam my door closed.
I take me phone in my hand and text Lorne.
*Hey my mom won't let me go w/ u 2 California.
-Camille*
*Oh, ok.
-Lorne*
*I'm sorry :(
-Camille*
*It's ok I guess. It's just that, I'm going 2 b gone for a month.
-Lorne*
*A MONTH?!
-Camille*
*Yeah.... I also have something to tell you when I get back.
-Lorne*
*What is it?
-Camille*
*I'm sorry :(
-Lorne*
*WHAT IS IT?!
-Camille*
I set my phone down on my nightstand and frown at my feet.
Crap. A month. A whole month. And what is he talking about? What does he need to tell me?
Mom calls for dinner awhile later. I come downstairs, and she makes me go back to my room. When she's finished her dinner, she brings me mine.
I frown angrily at her as she sets my plate on my desk across from my bed.
She doesn't say anything to me as she leaves.
I try to eat my chicken and peas and potatoes, but my body refuses to swallow. So I cover the plate with an empty box that used to hold some of my clothes, so I don't have to look at it and feel gross.
I play on phone for an hour or so, watching YouTube videos, then Mom comes in and takes my phone.
"Come on Mom!" I wine as she leaves. "What am I suppose to do?" I scream.
"Clean your room." Mom yells back through the door and from down the hall.
I huff loudly and roll over in my bed. I stare at the wall, boredom killing me.
The next morning, I stand up out of my bed at seven o'clock. I look out the window and Lorne is helping him mom put suitcases into his mom's white Malibu. He's wearing khaki shorts and a light blue tee-shirt. His mom wears a light purple shirt and jeans.
I watch them get into the car. But before Lorne gets in, he looks up and we lock eyes.
Tears are on the verge of spilling onto my cheeks when he breaks eye contact.
Than I do something crazy.
I swing open the big window above my off-white futon, and climb out onto the roof. I slide down, hooking my fingers on the gutter, my feet about a foot or two above the ground. I let go, and I fall to the grass, landing on my feet, I lean down to balance myself. I jump upright and bolt across the street to an opened armed Lorne.
His arms envelope me and he rests his chin on top of my head.
'Give It Up Now' by Kingsfoil plays from the speakers. Acoustic version.
We pull apart and Lorne kisses me softly.
"I-I love you." He whispers.
I grin. "I love you too." My stomach does flips and twirls wildly.
He climbs into the passenger seat in the car, and closes the door.
"See you soon." I say, leaning into the open window.
"Yes." He says. He kisses me again, but this time on the cheek. "Bye."
"Bye." I lean away, and Lorne's mom pulls the car out of the driveway. I wave goodbye to the car as it drives away, and when I can't see it anymore, I run back across the street back to my house.
I look around the yard for something to climb onto to get back into my room, but I can't find anything. So I walk around to the backyard, and place my feet between two windows that are a little out from the wall. Then, I slowly climb up. I pull myself up onto the ledge of Piper's window, and knock my knuckles on the glass. I see my reflection in the glass, and notice that I'm still wearing my pajama's.
Oh well.
Piper is inside. She's listening to music, dancing around.
I giggle as she continues to dance around.
I knock harder and louder on the window, and she turns around and see's me. She cocks her head to the side and comes over. She pulls her window open and I climb in.
"Hey... I thought you were grounded." Piper says.
"Yeah. I still am. Thanks for letting me in." I smile, and she rises her eyebrow at me.
"Okay...?" I nod to her an open her bedroom door. I creep across the hallway to my bedroom, open the door, and go inside. Than, I lay on my bed as if nothing had happened. I smile as I think of Lorne.
I guess I do love Lorne. Yeah. I do.
I grin and watch out the window.
