Y/n's POV

Friday January 26th
There wasn't much to look at on the ground floor. Just dust and broken concrete for the most part. We made our way upstairs and realized that there was a lot more up here. Maze-like hallways that were seemingly endless with probably 50 doors at least. Roy and I decided that we could cover more ground if we split up. We made a bunch of rational excuses but I think that in reality we just wanted a break from each other's company.

I walked down a hallway with very few doors, shining the light from my phone at every crack and crevice in the walls and ceiling. A door appeared on my right and I entered it. It looked like this was a storage room. The walls were lined with shelves long since stripped of their contents. I wondered if something in here could give a clue to what this building was. I looked around the dark room and saw something laying on the floor. I scurried to it and picked it up.
"Have you seen me," I read from the paper, "Responds to Oliver Willowbark, Last seen at the Willowbark estate, reward $10k."
The rest of the paper was torn off but I assumed that it had some sort of contact info. I looked at the picture of the boy on the missing person poster. He was smiling warmly and had soft features. He had short brown hair that faded to bleach blonde at the tips and bright blue eyes.
It saddened me to see this poster. I had never heard of Oliver and he was probably still missing. Though the name Willowbark sounded familiar..
I heard a loud crash that sounded like it came from the other side of the building followed by a loud shout. I stuffed the missing person's poster into my pocket and started running as fast as I could toward the sound. Ugh, it was probably Roy causing trouble.. again.
I ran for awhile and finally found the source of the sound. Roy had his leg stuck in a crack in the floor all the way up to his knee.
"THERE YOU ARE!! GET ME OUT OF HERE!!" He screamed. His voice was higher pitched when he was panicking.
"What happened?" I questioned as I approached. Roy covered his eyes as I shone my phone light in his face.
"Would you get that shit out of my fucking eyes?! I was just walking and wasn't paying any goddamn attention to where I was going! I stepped right on this fucking crack in the floor and dropped my fucking phone in it!" He also swore a lot more in a state of panic.
"Oh dear. That poor phone." I said jokingly.
"NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR YOUR STUPID FUCKING JOKES!! MY LEG FEELS LIKE IT IS BEING TORN OFF MY FUCKING BODY RIGHT NOW!! THIS WOOD IS SHARP AS FUCK!!" He yelled. He sounded mostly angry but I could hear some panic creeping into his voice. He started to hyperventilate a bit and I could see a few tears forming in the corners of his eyes.
"Alright alright. I'm.. sorry. Just grab my hand. I'll pull you out." I said reluctantly.
"Finally!" He rolled his eyes and grabbed my hand. I put my phone down on the ground so I could use my other hand but that made it hard to see.
I started pulling with both of my hands.
"OW OW OW!" Complained Roy. "STOP!! YOU'RE GONNA TEAR MY LEG OFF!!"
"Calm down would'ya? I'm not gonna tear your leg off. If it hurts then you know it's working." I responded, trying to sound calm as I strained to pull Roy out of the floor.
I eventually got him out and we flew backwards landing on the floor. The slightly rotted wood caved under our weight and we fell through the floor.
We weren't in the entrance room. This room was completely dark and no windows or cracks were visible.
I lay flat on my back, stunned for a moment. I breathed heavily as I fought to stay conscious. My head hurt like hell and I must have hit it. I heard a pained groan from Roy and realized he was laying on top of me, sideways.
"Get off me you over-baked potato!" I yelled and pushed him off as I got up.
"Ouch! Wait, what did you call me?" He said. I heard rustling and assumed he stood up, too.
"I called you an over-baked potato. You act like one." I replied.
"HEY!!"
"It's not my fault you built like a baked potato!"
"Listen here- wait! Is that my phone?"
I turned around and saw a tiny bright light on the ground. I heard shuffling and then the light moved. Roy had run to pick it up. He shined it right in my face and I covered my eyes.
"Hey! Point that thing away!"
Roy laughed.
"Oopsies!"
I glared at him but I didn't think he could see my face.
"Where are we?" Asked Roy as he shone his phone light around the room.
"I think we are on the first floor. Not the room we entered into though." I said.
The room we were in had one door. Roy went over to it as soon as he noticed. Turns out the door led to the room we entered in.
"Oh. Well. I guess we should go back upstairs. There are more rooms to look at." Said Roy.
I thought about the piece of paper in my pocket. It wasn't uncommon to find missing posters around this town. I started to grow more anxious as I thought about it. I questioned if I would be able to convince Roy to leave. I remembered that my phone was still upstairs and realized that while I was thinking, Roy had already gone back up the stairs.
"W-Wait!" I shouted as I stumbled to the stairs. I didn't want to be left in the dark.
"Well keep up then!" I heard a reply from the top of the stairs. Good, he hadn't gone too far. I hurried up the stairs toward the light of Roy's phone.
"I need to find my phone. Let's go back to where we fell." I said. What time was it? My mom must be worried sick.
"Fine. Let's go quickly. There is another room that I really want to check out." Responded Roy.
We hurried back to where we thought we fell. With how maze-like the building was, it was hard to tell exactly where we had fallen. We eventually found it though. My phone was precariously balanced right next to the large hole in the floor and I snatched it up. I checked the time.
1:09 am.
Holy shit! I was so late! I started to freak out a bit.
"Calm down! You might make another hole in the floor!" said Roy in a loud whisper.
"It's 1:09 am! Do you have any idea how long we have been here?" I said.
"Oh shit! I shoulda been home two hours ago." said Roy, his voice a bit louder than the previous whisper.
"And I should have been three!" I said.
"My mom is going to flip out at me!" said Roy, in a bit of a panic.
"My mom is going to kill me!" I said.
"Well.. if we are already super late.. what's another hour or so? We have more of the building to explore." Said Roy as he turned to look in my eyes. I looked back. I wasn't so convinced. I didn't want mom to call the police or something.
"I mean.. I could keep exploring and you could go home and lose the bet." said Roy.
That statement erased my previous worries. Competitive personality has logged back in.
"Yeah, no. Someone has to make sure you don't fall into another hole."
"Hey! I'm not going to fall into another hole!"
"Suuure.. Whatever convinces you to keep going."
Roy put his hand over his chest and gasped dramatically. I snickered and turned around to find a new room to enter. Roy hurried after me.
After a while I realized that I had lost Roy. I looked around in an attempt to find him. I groaned in exasperation.
"Roy?! Roy where are you?!" I called out in annoyance. Where was that guy? I continued down the hallway and turned a corner. Suddenly Roy jumped out in front of me.
"HEY Y/n!!" he shouted.
I yelped and fell backwards.
"What the fuck, Roy! What was that for!" I yelled. I stood up and dusted myself off.
"I wanted to scare you." He said. "Seems like it worked."
I glared at him with a stare full of daggers. He laughed.
"But that isn't it. I also found something cool. Come on." Roy turned around and started down the hallway without waiting to see if I followed him.
He went through a door and stood in the center of the room. I looked around expectantly.
"What am I supposed to be looking at?" I questioned.
"That." Roy said. He turned his phone so that the light was shown at a bulletin board, hanging precariously from a single nail. The board had a bunch of old photos and notes. There was a table under the bulletin board with only two items: a broken computer and a vibrant rose. How was the flower still pretty like that? Shouldn't it be wilted? I walked over to the board and took one of the pinned papers. This one was a business card simply labeled, "Cloud Nine Phonecall Service, 999-303-4690." Strange. There was some fine print but it was smudged and illegible.
Roy grabbed what looked like a newspaper add that read, "Move to the Uncanny Valley! Where the weird is normal and the strange is beautiful!"
"What is this stuff?" I ask, mostly to myself.
"I think this place used to be a house. I saw a room with a bed in it earlier." Said Roy.
A house? What happened to the owners? Why didn't they sell the house? Why did they leave so much stuff here? My mind spiraled with confusion as more and more questions arose.
Roy was gone again.
I looked around for him but there was no sign of him.
"Ha ha! Very funny, Roy! Where are you?" I shout. No response.
"If you're trying to scare me again it won't work for a second time!" Still nothing.
"Roy?! Seriously, where are you?" I started to get worried. I was officially lost. The white concrete walls all looked the same and all of the hallways were basically identical. I started to panic and moved faster. I kept moving faster and faster until I was in full sprint down the never ending hallways of the building. I was disoriented and didn't know which way was which.
"ROY!! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU!!" I yelled as I turned another corner into another identical hallway. I suddenly heard something. A quiet muffled shout. I froze and listened. I heard it again. What is that? Whatever it was I didn't care. It broke the panic inducing silence of the building and I ran towards it. I approached a door and heard the sound again from behind it.
I pushed the door open.
