JUNGKOOK POV

My hands trembled as I sent a text to my brother.

"I'm here."

"Great." Guk replied almost immediately.

"I'll come pick you up."

"I've already checked into my hotel."

"What? No! Mom and Dad want you to stay here at the house with us."

I rolled my eyes even though
my brother couldn't see it.

Made me feel better.

"Guk, you know Mom and Dad converted my room into a guest room and I am not sleeping on the couch."

"You can use the guestroom."

"Mom is expecting you,She even cooked a big family dinner."

"Then I'll come to dinner but I'm not sleeping there."

I'd need the peace and quiet to recoup after spending an evening with my family.

"It'll just be easier if you stay here, We could have a few
drinks and—"

"I don't drink."

I'd seen what alcohol did to the inhibitions of people in my family and swore I'd never lose control like that.

My brother just went nuts when he drank, doing all sorts of things that embarrassed me just hearing about them.

My mother drank several glasses of wine each night,I was pretty sure she drank to escape the realities of her life.

My dad had a scotch every
night after dinner.

Either way, I never wanted to
be in a position where I did some thing stupid because I didn't have control of my faculties.

"Fine." Guk typed back.

"I'll drink but you still need to come home."

I sighed, knowing I had no choice.

"I'll be there soon."

"Just hurry, I want to talk to
you about the wedding."

"Yeah, okay."

I closed my text app put my phone away and then readied myself for the next several hours It wasn't going to be easy.

I'd have to deal with my father's silence, my mother's indifference and my brother's grandstanding.

Oh joy.

I thought about leaving my stuff in the hotel room but I didn't know the people here or who might be able to get into my hotel room.

I packed everything and took it with me, just to be on the safe side.

Besides, if I had to leave early, I'd have everything with me.

The drive to my parents' house was easier than the ride from
the airport to the hotel in terms
of traffic but I was a nervous wreck by the time I pulled up
in front of the place.

I grimaced as I glanced up at
the house I'd grown up in.

My parents liked to think that they lived an influential life in their big fancy mansion but in reality, the paint was peeling, and the roof was sagging in several different places.

I knew the inside was just as
bad as the outside, if not worse.

My father owned his own investment company, so I was always a little confused as to
why they continued to live in a house that was slowly slipping into disrepair.
