"You think you can walk to the nurse? Or do we tell her to come here?" Celia asked and leaned back against the wall.

"I think I can walk," I closed my eyes and pressed the wet cloth to my forehead. Every breath hurt.

It wasn't the first time I got myself beaten up but I guess you never get used to it. You can teach yourself to ignore the pain but it doesn't make it go away.

"I should've known she'd go crazy. I'm so sorry, it should've been me, not you," Celia put her hand on my hand, squeezing it lightly. I looked down and noticed numerous bruises that were already forming on my knuckles.

"Don't worry about it," I smiled at her.

Whenever my father got violent, I rarely fought back. First of all, it wouldn't matter, he was a lot stronger than me. And second of all, it'd get me in even more trouble. Which is why I was shocked I punched Sasha back. I actually fought back. I didn't remember much from it but from what Renn and Celia had said, I hurt Sasha pretty badly. It did make me feel a little bit better.

"What if the teachers find out? I'm fucked," I cried at some point.

"No one from the staff was there, don't worry about it. Sasha might be dumb but she's not that dumb. Telling on you would also mean admitting to starting the fight and she can't afford to go to the doom room. She thinks she's too pretty for that," Renn explained in a soothing voice.

"Aren't Nevers supposed to be ugly, though?" I laughed quietly.

"Well, yeah but you know, nothing about her really makes sense. She caused a scene during Uglification, too."

"Huh?" I glanced at her, taken aback.

"She argued with the teacher about whether she'd be drinking potions he'd tell us to drink or not," Renn said and we all laughed at that.

"Is she always like that?"

"Probably. I've heard stories about her," Renn sat on the ground in front of me.

"What stories?" I asked curiously.

"She got her messed up personality from her mother. Once the mother was imprisoned, she lived with her father, who remarried a few months later. Wherever Sasha goes, trouble follows. She got kicked out of a few different schools for bad behavior. This one is her last chance." Renn played with her fingers.

"And if she fails, then what?"

"How would I know?" She joked and we all burst into laughter.

"You seem to know a lot," I justified, still chuckling.

"We should really get you to the nurse's office, though," Celia finally spoke.

They helped me up and I told them to let me go to see if I could walk on my own. It took a while but eventually, I was able to walk up the stairs all by myself. Both girls followed close behind me. They never took their eyes off of me. By the time we made it to the office, I was able to quicken the pace, though my heart raced in my chest.

"Wanna go in alone?" Renn asked while casting worried glances at my body every couple of seconds.

"Yeah," I sighed, knocked on the door, and braced myself for whatever was to come.

"We'll be waiting downstairs," Celia said and I watched them walk away. The corridor suddenly became a very lonely, quiet place.

"Cassie, dear, what happened?" The old lady gasped when she saw me.

I chuckled quietly at her reaction. "I fell. Told you, I'm clumsy."

"Great heavens, I've never had a student come in here twice a day!" She stepped aside and let me in. "Sit down, child."
