"What do you think you are doing?" Lady Lesso asked angrily when I let Fenrir off the leash.

"He'll be fine," I assured her and watched my dog trot away and disappear in the shadows.

"Don't you dare come to me crying if your stupid mutt gets lost," she spat at me.

"He probably knows these woods better than anyone here, he won't get lost."

"How come?" She questioned and glanced at me.

"He likes spending time here" I explained and we both remained quiet until we reached the edge of the forest.

It was getting darker and darker with every passing minute and when I looked at the trees, it was pitch black in between them.

"We should've brought a torch," I mumbled to myself quietly.

"We are not going to need one," she said and came to a halt.

"What do you m-" I didn't even get to finish asking the question. I watched in complete awe as Lady Lesso closed her eyes and after a few seconds, her finger started glowing. It cast warm, purple light all around us.

"Good idea," I crossed my arms as I spoke.

"You could do that, too," she added and for the first time in a very long time, it felt genuine, without even the smallest bit of rudeness.

"I wish I could," I admitted with a sigh. I really did. It would make everything a whole lot easier.

"You'll get the hang of it," the Dean smiled at me and we both entered the forest.

The redheaded woman chose the main path. We walked side by side and I tried my best not to outwalk her. I knew exactly where we were. Fenrir, on the other hand, was nowhere to be seen but I was sure he was somewhere close by.

"Do you have a specific place in mind?" I asked to break the silence. It was awkward between us and it was exhausting if you ask me.

"There's a meadow not far from here."

I quickly remembered a few spots and wondered which one of them she'd meant. As long as it was within a walking distance from the castle, the probability of me having already been there was very high.

I tried my best to enjoy being in the forest despite also being watched by the teacher. I tightened the jacket around myself and breathed deeply. It was fairly cold but the air was fresh. I smiled at the thought I'd spend quite a while here without having to check if I'm not being followed every couple of minutes. After all, students were not allowed in the woods and I'd be in huge trouble if anyone found out I'd sneaked out countless times already and knew this place like the back of my hand.

"I think we should turn right," I commented when we made it to a fork of the path and I saw Lady Lesso choose left.

"Why is that?" She asked but didn't stop.

"I, uh-" I struggled to find a good excuse. "I have a bad feeling. I think it'd be best if we didn't go that way."

"Scared you will get your shoes dirty?" She scoffed. "Move, we're almost there."

I shrugged and followed her. There had been a huge storm just a few days earlier and I knew the path the Dean chose was blocked by a bunch of fallen trees. It was impossible to get round them because the trees that were still standing grew too close to each other. No human would slide through them.

"I hate to break it to you, but I think we should turn around," I said when we finally saw the damage the storm had done.

She glanced at me with a smirk on her face but didn't say a thing.
