"Oh, no, no, I'm sorry. I literally just took a shower and I'm on my way to bed now," I explained. It felt strange to be talking to her while not being able to see her in the darkness. It was probably for the best, though, because at least she wouldn't notice how badly bruised I was.
"I hope so. You wouldn't want to be late for your classes tomorrow morning," she stated. I heard her steps when she neared me but I still couldn't tell where exactly she was.
"I guess you're right. I should go," I stepped forward, and - just my luck - I bumped into her. Before I could apologize, I tripped and she grabbed my hand to prevent me from falling. First, I appreciated the gesture but then the pain won. I yelped and snatched it out of her grip. The next thing I heard was a low growl.
"Fenrir, stop it, for God's sake," I told him off.
"It is quite dark in here, try not to fall again," she stated the obvious and I barely stopped myself from snapping at her. I didn't know what it was but suddenly, I wanted to be as far away from her as possible. The whole encounter was awkward and it made my palms sweat.
"I'm sorry, we both had a rather stressful day. May I go now?" I asked and massaged my knuckles gently.
"You may go," was all she said. I heard her walk away and suddenly, it all was quiet again.
I held onto Fenrir and we both made it to my room. I decided to get the assignment done in the morning. Instead of doing homework, I picked a bunch of vials from the shelf and quickly checked what the ingredients were. The only one I recognized was yarrow. The nurse could be trying to poison me and I wouldn't even know which I found to be surprisingly amusing.
I ended up drinking one of the potions and putting a little bit of salve on all the cuts and bruises - how that was supposed to heal all of it, I had no idea but I hoped for the best. Once I was done, I fed Fenrir, braided my hair, and went straight to bed. I had what seemed to be the most peaceful sleep for the first time in weeks, even though the same nightmare from the night before repeated itself in my mind. My father hitting me, Fenrir trying to protect me. And, on top of that, Lady Lesso saying I was meant to be here. This time, however, it was a little bit different. It felt as if I was watching a movie rather than seeing things as if I was part of the dream. I observed everything, only from someone else's perspective. I tried intervening when my dad punched me - well, the other me - but the attempt ended up being completely pointless. My hand simply went through his chest. I still felt all of the pain and it was a lot harder to wake up this time. For a moment, I was convinced I got stuck, and only when I panicked, I suddenly sat up in my bed.
I noticed Fenrir right my by side and I breathed in and out slowly a couple of times to calm myself down. I petted him and looked at the clock. 5 am. Just in time to get the assignment done, I thought.
Finishing it didn't take long and once I was done, I headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Technically, we were supposed to stay in our rooms until 6 am but I had nothing else to do and I didn't want to be bored to death for over thirty minutes. Besides, it's not like being in the bathroom was dangerous in any way.
I let Fenrir out, too, so that he could go get some fresh air. I wished I could join him but I also knew I'd need quite a bit of time to get ready for the day.I returned to my room shortly later and let me tell you, applying makeup to cover up all of the damage Sasha had caused the previous day took a ridiculous amount of time, mainly because it wasn't just my face that I had to put concealer on, but also my hands. I was used to hiding my injuries and I considered myself to be very good at it, even though I wasn't exactly experienced when it came to makeup in general. Never in my life had I used a brush, or owned one. My everyday routine consisted of applying concealer and doing probably the most basic eye makeup you could think of. Despite being a blonde, pale girl, my lashes were dark so I could even go without mascara and only used it out of habit.
