Meredith's interview

24th December, decision day

"Morning" he smiled as he rolled over in bed, spooning her body close to his. "Hmm- morning" she mumbled sleepily as she rolled over in his arms, her body curling into his chest.

"I don't want to go to work today" she groaned. "Me either" he sighed. "You know, a quickie might make us feel better" she whispered quietly. Derek smirked and kissed the top of her head. "Yeah a quickie might" he said groggily as he slowly rolled her back over, dropping the shoulder of her Dartmouth shirt. "Hmm- you look so good in this" he whispered as he began kissing her neck whilst his hand travelled up her shirt, squeezing her breast.

She moaned as she leaned into his touch. "The fight for chief is over today" she said as he hands roamed her body before pulling away her panties. "Hmm- let's not talk about that right now" he groaned as he slowly began rubbing her clit.

She moaned loudly as she reached back to tug his hair, gasping and praising in pleasure. "I need you" she gasped. He groaned, dropping his boxers and taking himself in hand before stroking her clit with the tip of his cock. He moaned behind her ear as he lined himself up.

He slowly pushed into her, the behind and deep angle filling them both to the brim. "Fuck Derek" She moaned loudly as he slowly rocked his hips. "You're so tight" he gasped as he slowly fucked her. His hand came back to her clit, rubbing it gently as he coaxed her to a climax.

After a couple of short minutes, they came crashing down against one another, cries and screams of pleasure filling the small trailer.

Meredith sighed happily as she rolled on her stomach and looked to him. "That must be a new record or something" she giggled as he brushed her hair away from her face. "That felt so good. You're so incredible" he smiled before kissing her and laying his head down on the pillow, getting lost in her emerald eyes.

"Today's the final day" he smiled sadly as her as he threaded their hands together. "I don't want to even think about it" she said as she closed her eyes. "Me either" he sighed. He looked to their intertwined hands, gently running his thumb over her ring finger.

"Meredith" he said quietly as he closed his eyes. "Yeah?" She whispered as she looked to him. "Can you promise that this won't change things between us?" He asked carefully.

Meredith sighed.

"Der, of course this is going to change us, but that doesn't mean it's going to be for the worse" Meredith smiled sadly at him. "I'll still love you, you know. If you get the job, I'll still love you." Derek said quickly. Meredith sighed again. "I know, and I'll still love you too" she said.

Derek kissed her quick before closing his eyes again, enjoying the warmth of her body. "Love you" he mumbled as he stroked her back gently. "Hmm-" she hummed happily. "We're going to be late" she whispered. "I know" he groaned before pulling himself away to go get ready.

They eventually made their way to the hospital and we're following the instruction to both go wait outside Webber's office. Derek looked around before grabbing her hand gently.

"Hey" he whispered. "Good luck" he smiled before kissing her cheek. She smiled back "you too" she said before they heard the door open.

"Meredith" Webber called before she stood up and straightened herself out. She gave Derek one last glance before she walked inside. "Sit down, make yourself comfortable" he pointed casually to the sofa as he poured her a coffee.

"So how have you been, Meredith?" He asked as he handed her the cup of coffee. Meredith smiled. "I've been good, yeah, how've you been, Richard?" She asked. Richard took a seat at his desk, spinning his chair to her.

"I'll be glad when I'm finally out of this place" he laughed as he picked up some paperwork and handed it to her. She reached over and grabbed it before sitting back and looking at the label in the corner.

Her head shot up.

"This place is all yours, Meredith"

"Wha-" she looked to him quickly. He laughed a little. "You're the new Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace" he said. Meredith jaw dropped, her mind and heart playing with her emotions.

"Richard." She said quietly as she glanced through the pages. "You're the right woman for the job, Meredith. Your admin work was immaculate, you can teach, support your staff and patients, you've worked around the world, being raised by one of the best surgeons in the world- Meredith this job is your birth-right, I knew that since you were a little girl wandering these halls"

Meredith looked up at him, placing the papers on the table. "Thank you" she said as she shook her head in disbelief. "Derek's all of those things too though" Meredith said as her heart panged in her chest.

"Derek's a fantastic surgeon, maybe even better than you, and I strongly advise you take him as you Head of Neuro, but Derek isn't a Grey"

"You're not just giving me this job because of my mother, are you?" She asked as she began biting her nails. He shook his head.

"Im not going to lie, it was the deciding factor. You and Derek were very close. But you live, breathe and sleep surgery, he doesn't. The Chief needs to, it's the job" he explained. She slowly nodded her head.

"So, do you accept the offer?" He looked to her as he slid a sheet of paper across the coffee table.

Meredith looked at it for a moment, thinking.

"Of course"

She grabbed the pen and scribbled her signature on the line.

"Seattle Grace's first female Chief" Richard smiled as he shook her hand. Meredith smiled back.

"How is your mother by the way?" He asked as she stood up. "She's okay, yeah" she smiled awkwardly. "What's she up to these days, working hard I guess?" He asked. Meredith nodded. "Yeah... She's travelling" she smiled nervously. Richard raised his brows. "Wow, the great Ellis Grey vacationing and working? She must have gone soft"

Meredith just hummed in response and smiled as she stood up. "Tell her Richard Webber was thinking of her" he nodded at her knowingly. "I will, Richard. She's always remembered you"

With that, Meredith walked to the door and Richard followed her out to get Derek. Him and Meredith passed glances as Richard called him in.

Her heart broke for him, but she had to remind herself what her mother had drilled into her since she was a little girl.

Never compromise yourself for anyone.
