𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 you took the weekend off,  you came back to work, despite how shitty you were feeling. But you know things would be worse if you stayed at home. You'd drive yourself crazy with paranoia and anxiety, so working would be a welcome distraction.

So, you plastered on a smile, pretending that everything is okay when it's not. Luckily for you, you've gotten pretty good at playing pretend...for the most part. You doubt anyone will care enough to see through you, and if they do, you'll just make something up.

Just pretend that everything is okay, and hopefully, you'll start to believe it.

Unfortunately, it seems like your pretending skills need work because right before break, Ken approached you. "What's wrong?"

"What?" You asked, confused. "You're acting all weird and quiet, and you barely even look up from your computer. You're not acting like yourself. What's wrong?"

"Nothing. I'm just focused on my work." You brushed off. He gave you a skeptical look, and you stared right back, unable to help the smile that crossed your lips.

"C'mon, let's go grab lunch together." And so, you left your desk and walked over to the break room with him.

--

Something seems off about you today, Bakugou can tell. You're quieter, and you can barely hold eye contact with him. You don't even try to make conversation with him as much, staying at your desk rather than going over to his office to check on him.

Maybe you're just giving him space. But he doesn't want you to. He's grown used to the attention you give him, and he doesn't mind it.

"Katsuki, hello, Earth to Katsuki," Camie called, pulling him out of his thoughts. He shifted his gaze to her, finally locking eyes with her. "I've been calling your name for like twenty minutes, what's up with you?"

"Sorry, I was lost in thought." He replied, looking down at his bento and taking another bite from it. He needs to focus on the now. He's having lunch with his soon-to-be wife, who made him some delicious food.

He should be happy, but he can't help the worry and concern he feels for you. Why does he care so much? He barely even knows you. He shouldn't care this much...but he does.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Camie pressed him. "Yeah, I'm fine. What were the plans you were talking about before, about the wedding?"

"Well, for the flowers, I was thinking about getting white roses." She remarked, and Bakugou rolled his eyes getting back into this discussion.

One of the reasons why the two haven't gotten married yet is because they've been arguing so much about wedding plans. Bakugou doesn't want anything cliché or over the top, and she's the exact opposite.

"I already told you, I don't like Roses." He said, annoyed. They started bickering, but Bakugou didn't care. At least he's not thinking about you. That's all that matters.

--

"So, you still haven't told me what's wrong." Ken reminded you, and you sighed. You thought he forgot about that. "C'mon, just tell me what's wrong. Is Hanako being a jerk?"

"When is she not?" You remarked. For some reason, Bakugou's secretary doesn't like you. According to Ken, she doesn't like any of Bakugou's assistants, she's threatened by them and scared that they're going to replace her, which is stupid, considering that they're two different jobs.

"That's true. But is she bothering you?" You shook your head no, taking another bite from your food. "I can't really talk about it."

"So you admit it! You're upset!" He exclaimed. You sighed, giving him a look.

"Sorry, sorry. Haru and I have been getting into these murder mystery shows. They're very dramatic and all..but anyways, if you don't want to tell me, that's okay. I won't push you. But I'm here for you if you want to talk, or just want company." He told you.

You smiled at that. It's nice to know you still have a friend around, considering how busy Sakura is, and how she hasn't really been there for you lately. "Thanks."

He nodded in response, and the two of you continued with your lunch.

When you both finished, you walked out of the break room, seeing Camie talking with Bakugou. She gave him one long kiss, that made both you and Ken uncomfortable, before telling him she loved him, stepping into the elevator, and leaving.

Ken mocked them, making kissy noises and rubbing his back with his two hands. You snickered at that, unable to help the giggles that fell from your lips. Suddenly, Bakugou turned to face you two, causing you both to panic.

You cleared your throat anxiously, and both you and Ken split up, walking in opposite directions. Bakugou follows you back to your desk. Oh shit. Did he see that? Is he going to yell at you?

"Hey." He greeted. Okay, he's not mad, that's good. "Hey."

"Do you know when the next press conference is?" You typed something up on your computer, finding the calendar. "It should be...two weeks from now, at 3 pm."

"Okay, thanks." He turned to walk away, and you thought that was the end of the conversation. But then, he turned back to face you.

He cleared his throat, scratching his neck nervously, whatever it his he had to tell you, it must've been pretty hard for him to say. You smiled a little, amused by his struggle. "What is it?"

"I was just wondering uh, about- about how you're doing." He stated you couldn't help but giggle at that. "I can't believe that was hard for you to ask, but I'm fine."

Bakugou cocks an eyebrow at that. Everyone says they're "fine." It doesn't mean anything. And when Camie says she's "fine" he knows she isn't. Her "fine" means that she's pissed, upset, or both.

"Okay, 'fine' is total bullshit. When I ask you how you are you can say, okay, good or bad. But not fine, okay?" He told you. "So, how are you doing?"

You gave him a shaky grin. "Not so good."

"Do you want to talk about it? Is it because of the meeting with the Hero Commission?" He couldn't help but ask.

"I appreciate the concern Bakugou, but I'm a big girl, and I can handle this on my own. You don't have to worry unless it's affecting my performance. I'm sure you have enough stuff on your own that you have to deal with."

That makes him stop. You're right. Whatever it is you're going through, you can handle, no matter how badly he wants to be there for you. He has his own shit to deal with, and he should focus on that instead. He needs to keep things professional.

If you need help, you'll tell him. But right now, he should just focus on himself.
