The sound of a knock echoes the room. Finn walks to the door and is surprised to see the brunette standing there. "Mill?"
"Hi, I brought you your sweater," she hands him the cotton material.
Of course she knew it was a lousy excuse for her to come see him. It was this or to just pretend that last night didn't happen."Come in," he grabs the sweater and opens the door more for her to walk in.
"I'm sorry for coming unannounced-"
"Don't apologize," he cuts in. "You are always welcome to come, anytime." he adds. "I'm sorry Millie about everything. I'm sorry for how I acted that night-"
"You don't have to apologize. You were concerned and I lashed out on you." she admits. "I came to tell you that you were right. I lied to you. I did relapse and I've been trying my best but I need help."
"What can I do to help?"
"I am going to a treatment center for the weekend. I'll stay there and I'll be assigned a nutritionist. I'll be fine." she assures, not sure if she is trying to assure herself or him.
He looks at her with worried eyes and when she looks at him she gives in, "Hold me please?" she asks. She wants to be comforted by the arms she felt most safe in, which was his.
He wraps his arms around her shaking body, as she softly begins to cry. Her sobs being muffled by her hand while his hand is on her back, rubbing small circle to help calm her down. "You'll be okay Mill. Everything will be okay,"
"But what if.. what if it's not?" her voice so small.
"It's going to be okay. I will be here for you. I promise i'm not going anywhere. I promise," he states and he finally does something that has always helped ease her nerves, something she loves, he kisses her forehead.
She holds him tighter while his lips stay on her forehead, it's like she savoring this moment. His forehead kisses, her home, that always gives her comfort.
"I should get going," she states, pulling away.
"Can I give you a ride?"
She shakes her head, "My mother is taking me."
You could only imagine what had happened when Millie had to tell her mother she was going away for a couple of days. Her mother yelled and told her how disappointed she was, that her daughter is an embarrassment.
"What if I-"
"No. Ayla tried taking me but it just caused an argument between both. She threaten to have Ayla removed as my roommate. I don't know what she would do or try if you tried to intervene with her plans."
"Okay. I'll see you when you get out. Promise."
She tenses at the last word but she nods, "Okay bye."
Promise, it's one word with seven letters that holds so much meaning. Promise, the word that everyone uses but they never keep. Promise, a word that she doesn't believe in the meaning anymore.
Before she walks out, "I need you to do something for me."
"I'll do anything."
She moves her hand to her neck, and unclasps the necklace around her neck. She hands it to Finn, placing it on his hand and closing it in a fist, "Take care of this for me until i'm back," she hesitates for a second like she regretted giving him the necklace but then walks out of the apartment.
Once Millie is gone he looks at what she gave him, it's a necklace and in the middle is the ring, their matching ring.
The realization hit him, she kept the ring and wore it every single day even when he hurt her. Even when they were no longer talking, even when she should hate him she still kept it.
