Everyone was star-struck. Steve had literally fallen out of the sky in a blaze of glory. He would have died, if not for the jet flying past. He had the pilot fly it down, land in a football field, and bought him dinner. At least the pilot was terrified AND full... There was to be an emergency meeting at avengers tower, but I declined to join. I was still trying to wrap my head around what bald had said. Did tony pay off one of the justices? Or possibly even more? "Hey eyes up champ" said foggy gleefully as he walked in the office "2 new cases came by today, along with Mr. Richards own deposit for our services." I completely forgot about our legal bind with the fantastic 4. When we first started they asked us to help us out with loans and such. We both forget even heroes have the occasional finance problems. "Foggy.....I'm taking a leave of absence. You can handle the office while I'm gone, right?" Foggy was stunned. I heard every shake in his movements and every drop of sweat he had. "S-sure Matt.." He stumbled out. I picked up my coat and headed back to the apartment.

I tried my hardest to not think about the trial or the bill. But every Chanel on TV was abuzz about "superhero" this or "criminal that". Thankfully, the X-men had decided to remain neutral throughout the conflict. I imagine because the majority of them had already registered under the Mutant Registration Act. The real fight hasn't started yet but it was beginning soon. It was standard war procedure: talk politics, then attack. Try to convince people to join you, not them. I wanted to hear everyone's take on the war. But I was afraid to show my face...my loss in court may have just been part of all this. I guess I had no choice.

Stark tower was abuzz with heroes and vigilantes alike. Blade, moon knight, even Dr. Strange was there to talk the issue out. But everyone was focused on the main argument in the main lobby. "Talk is just talk. There should be 2 dozen or so cape killers heading this way in a few hours. Those who don't sign, get 3 little marks into their skulls. We have to act fast" shouted luke cage into the crowd of super heroes "or do you all WANT to be hunted like those criminals we locked up?" It was a good speech but with every good speech is a good counterpoint. "Why, cage? Why not join them? We'd get wages, protection, backup, anything we'd want. I don't like the way the bill is laid out either, but the most mathematically correct choice is going to be to side with the government. Maybe we could change the bill from the in-" Luke Cage cut Mr. Fantastic off "We need action, not promises. Anyways it's easy for you to say, reed. Your leader of the Fantastic 4, you guys are already public. The entire family-sue, Johnny, Ben, even the kids- all members of the Fantastic 4. Everyone knows your names, so you have no one to harm, no secrets to learn. People like me out on the streets got way more to lose. You can't just act like we have a whole lot of options." Reed stood up and said "Either be apart of the change, or get run over by the future." Angered, Luke just walked away, punishing through a wall of steel meant to keep back the hulk (granted it hasn't been used for 5 years so it might have been rusted, but it was still an amazing feat). Patriot looked torn "Man, this bill is tearing us apart. If only that explosion hadn't happened." I finally started to speak "If only.....now patriot can you tell me about that little argument between Cage and Richards?" Patriot took a big sigh "Well I know you're no stranger to Luke's big temper. He and Reed took a big huff to blow each other's houses down if you know what I mean. Luke tried to talk to some people about going with cap and hide in his bunker. Reed tried to tell luke about all the 'benefits' of joining Johnny-Law. All that protection, wages...it's all crap. There's no getting paid for you duty." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I decided I better get both sides of the story. After all, patriot is only a teenager. He doesn't have as big a grasp on what shield would intend to do. "Where's reed now?"
