Chapter 10: The X-Men

I cut off all of my credit cards, email addresses, phones, anything that shield could track. I talked foggy into removing my name from the business, at least for a while. Told him that it would help get more business. It probably won't to be honest.

I had to go through 30 health and security checks before I could meet cap. They even cut open my arm to check for bomb implants. Some crazed lunatic actually cut his arm open to take a crack at one of Americas icons. I was shocked that the civil war had gone so far as to hurt the people's view of us all. The base was an old hydra hangout under the Boston ports. It had thousands of dollars of equipment and vehicles inside. A few shield agents had defected to cap's side, forming his military force 'the white star'. After 5 hours of checks, I finally met cap. "Ah Matt, nice of you to join us. There's been a lack of familiar faces, glad to see you are on our side." I looked at Steve "so none of the avengers saw it your way huh? Or am I not the first?" Steve took a long sigh and made a cup of coffee. "Want some?" I denied, hoping he'd stop dodging the question. "Steve..."I asked carefully "am I the first one?" Steve put his head down near his coffee. "Yes, Matt. You are. Cage, iron fist, and the new avengers are coming, but they have been stopped by over 3 blockades. They should be up here by tomorrow afternoon. So I guess we've got a while huh?" I shrugged. After talking to Reed, I couldn't believe tony and hank pym supported the release and employment of villains. There's been dark times all around, but this has affected everyone. "Hmmmm....I've got a job for you Matt. I need you to check on our friends at Xavier institute. I know wolverine is on the hunt for nirto right now, but we need to make sure none of the others will start to join the wrong side. I've got a plane in the hanger waiting for you."

I arrived on the grounds of the mansion. "Ah Matt!" Shouted forge. Forge was a mutant who was excellent at making things. Machines and mutants alike respected him. "If you're gonna head out, it's time to try this." He presented a box labeled 'Devils saber'. "It was a project for someone of your skill set. Everyone else was too slow for it." I scoffed at the new suit. It looked the exact same. "And this is different" I asked "or are you pulling my leg?" Forge hit a button on the back of the suit, and started to throw it around the room. "Noise canceling. Every strike you make, can't be heard. You can turn this off, by the way. In case you want to go whole tank mode." I was really impressed. But also a bit shocked that no one else could fit the bill. "Alright mr daredevil" said forge "try this out next mission. Might come in handy."

I figured the best way to get them on our side was to join them on a few missions. There had been a fire at a nuclear plant, and AIM was taking responsibility. While M.O.D.O.K laughed at the masses, the X-force crew set up to raid the fire. Me and Emma frost went ahead of everyone else. "So Emma.....given any thoughts on caps offer?" I could feel Emma's cold stare and aura pierce through the fires. She couldn't speak, not with all the sentinels watching. After a few accidents, the government ordered that a unit of sentinels follow any and all X-Men units around. If anyone heard, the location of caps base, our allies, it might all leak out. While Emma took control of the fires, I headed the front offensive. 50 men.....no problem. Bola swing on the first 10, knocking them all out. I leapt from body to body while someone shouted "BRING IN THE ASSET!" Asset? A few loud thumps, and a door in the back of the building hurts open. Emma said that that door had to have been hotter than something an average human could touch. So that meant something above average....great. "I told you to stop calling me an "asset" stumpy! Just point me to the man who doesn't need his arms" screamed the man in the cave. "O-of course Mr. Rhino sir. Your target is daredevil, in the back. We've got the X-men." Rhino huh? Shouldn't be a real problem. I've faced him in...the...past. Rhino was decked out in high class gear, more than just his normal suit. Lazer targeting, heat vision, an EMP, a chain gun, and more than enough armor. "I'm coming, horn head!! Still think I'm small time crime?!?!" Ooooooh I'm gonna pay for that line. "Storm" I said on the intercom "can you fry some of those weapons? I he uses that EMP, I can't get this fire down, and we'll have another stam-" I got a jolt down my arm. Think that's storms 'stop' button. A volley of lightning strikes hit rhinos feet. They knocked out the weapons, but it kept charging the EMP. "HA! Non of your Eco warrior shit is gonna work on me!" I guess I was going in without back up. Rhino ran forward. Shield records say that rhino could outrun your average sports car and then some. I ran forward at the fastest I could. "Better have more than just sticks, buddy, cuz I'm com-" right before we had contact, I threw a vibranium bola out. His punches were fast, but my echolocation was faster. Soon, he had a decent idea for once. He slammed the ground as hard as possible, creating a shockwave that stirred the entire facility. "MATT" shouted cyclops "KNOCK HIM OUT NOW! If another good hit like that happens, this thing will go up in flames!" He was right. It was time to put my new gear to use. I put on the silencers and the electric shocks. I stunned rhino within 5 clubs, then used the vibranium bola to finish him off. But I wasn't done with him yet. "WHERE DID YOU GET THIS ARMOR?!?!?" Rhino struggled to get the words out of his blood soaked teeth. I struck him with the club, the vibration hitting my every bone. "WHERE, DAMN IT?!?!?" He finally managed to speak out "st.....stah....stark indusssssstries. Stark industries." I was shocked. "Well he doesn't have armor for this" I said as I hit him in the mouth "does he?"
