The next week goes pretty good. After school on Tuesday, me and Antoine go to our spot in the woods and kiss each other. On Wednesday, I go and practice with the boys at football again. That's really fun. On Thursday, me and Antoine go for a drive in which he holds me and kisses me in an empty parking lot at the end, and on Friday, as I'm out at a restaurant with Elizabeth, I get my period. So on Saturday morning, I'm in one of those moods where I would rather not do anything but lay on the couch all day, because I'm bleeding heavy.
As I'm watching a documentary on some legendary footballer, I get a phone call. I pause the show and see that Antoine is calling me. I pick up the phone, saying, "Hello?"
"Hey, Sage. Are you busy today?"
"Uh, yeah, sort of, why?" I am busy being not busy.
"What's up?"
"What do you mean?"
"What are you doing that is making you so busy?"
I sigh. "Well, that's just the thing. The thing that is making me so busy is that I'm doing absolutely nothing."
"Oh? Then why'd you say you're busy?"
"I kind of just wanna stay home today."
"Mind if I come over?"
"No, but my parents will," I say, although my parents aren't even home this weekend, so it literally would just be me and him. But I don't want him to have to see me so... well, lazy, with my period and everything. I just don't want him over today, is all.
"Oh... Why are you so opposed to going out, Sage?" he asks.
I sigh. I really don't want to have to tell him, but I know I've probably already come up with way too many lies in this conversation, so I say, "Girl stuff."
"Huh?"
I sigh. Guys are so stupid. They need things told to them so bluntly sometimes in order to understand. So I say, kind of roughly, "I have my period."
"Oh... Okay."
"Yeah, so..."
"So why don't I come over and keep you company. I know that can be uncomfortable, but maybe I could get your mind off of it."
"Antoine, I don't wanna be making out with you while there's blood coming from-"
"Well, yeah, right, right. No need to get graphic. But we don't have to make out. We could do something else," he says quickly.
I roll my eyes, not able to help myself from a least a little bit. "Antoine, I'm really not feeling well."
"That's why I want to come over. Please, Sage?"
"Oh, and now you're begging? Come on, Antoine," I say, giggling a bit. "You just love me that much, you mushy soft-hearted romantic?"
"Yeah, I do," I can hear the grin in his voice. "I miss you, because I love you. And maybe I am a romantic because if it, but I can't help it. Your parents won't mind if I come over, right?"
"That was a lie. My parents aren't actually home this weekend. It'd just be you and me."
"Oh? Well that make it even better. So I can come over?"
"You begged."
"Yeah, so can I?"
"Yeah, sure, as long as on the way you pick me up some pads."
"Uh... sure... Bye, love you."
"Yeah, I love you too, Antoine." I hang up. I love the way that it's just become so normal and casual for us to tell each other we love each other. I think that's how it should be.
In about a half hour, there I brisk knock on the front door, and I glance out the window, then stand up, seeing it's Antoine, and open the door.
"Hey, baby," he says, looking down at me with sparkling eyes. He has a plastic shopping bag in one of his hands.
"Hey, lovely," I grin back, letting him in and closing the door behind him.
"Coming from you, the model."
"Not right now, in my pajama pants and tank top and hoodie."
"Incorrect," he smiles, walking to my kitchen table, as if he's been here before, even though he actually hasn't. We always go his house, because his parents are more open about us dating than mine. I haven't even told my parents I have a boyfriend yet, but I know they know, because I don't try to hide it, either.
He take the pads out and hands them to me. "The middle-aged woman at the store told me I was being such a good boyfriend, and she is sure that my girl just loves me."
"I guess that woman was right," I smile. "Thanks."
"Don't run away yet, though. I got something else for you."
"Oh, you got me tampons, too? Thanks!" I say sarcastically.
"No..." he suddenly looks over, concerned. "Should I have?"
I start laughing, holding my cramping stomach. "No, Antoine! I was just kidding! You're fine. Now, what else did you get?"
He looks relieved as he takes out a bucket of my favorite ice cream.
I grin. "How'd you know?" I ask, hugging him.
He laughs, getting a bowl and scooping some out for me. "I don't know. Good guess?"
"Actually, though, how?"
He grins mischievously. "Secret. I can't tell you my secret ways of charming you."
I roll my eyes. "Well, you certainly are good at your secret ways at charming me."
"Mhm, I'm sure, babe."
Once my ice cream is served, we sit down on the couch together, his arm around my shoulders. I eat up my ice cream, thanking him, and lean into him. "I have a game we could play."
"Oh really?" he asks, sounding intrigued.
"Yeah. I just made it up, so it's stupid, but we each go back and forth, saying one word that we like about the other person, yeah?"
He grins. "Sure. You go first."
"Protective," I say.
"Sexy."
"Hot."
"Uh... Sweet."
"Strong."
"Lovely."
"Committed."
"Beautiful."
"Handsome."
"Curvy."
I giggle at this one, covering my mouth, before saying, "I like that you should your emotions. You're real to me. So real. Real is my word."
He smiles. "Can mine be two words?"
"Sure," I grin.
"M'kay. Excellent at kissing," he leans in, kissing me passionately on the lips, and I don't even care that I'm bleeding or that I have cramps or anything. When he pulls away, he says, "Oh, wait, that was three words."
I laugh, leaning into him, and he grins back, whispering in my ear, "Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. You're too perfect. Perfect is the best word for you."
I smile up at him, and I'm sure both our eyes are glimmering as I say, "It's okay. No matter what kind of crap comes out of my mouth, I don't think my mouth will ever truly be sick of your kisses."
He smiles back, and kisses me more.
