Author's Note
GUYS, I'M SO BACK. I'M NOT THE TYPE TO LEAVE A GOOD STORY UNFINISHED, EVEN AFTER NINE MONTHS. LET'S GO, BABY! 💪💪💪
It makes me sad to realise that probably a lot of people who were enjoying this story won't even see this update, for various reasons- they (rightfully so) assumed I was done updating it, or they simply moved on from it, or they stopped using Wattpad, or whatever else. But if you're still here, somehow, thank you so much for sticking with me. It is much more than I deserve or what I could of asked for at all. And if you're a new reader, or reading this months or years after I publish this, thank you so much. Every bit of support means the world to me.
I just took the time to read through this entire story (after nine months, you forget a lot, believe it or not), so hopefully that means I have a good understanding of what has happened thus far, and therefore will be able to update nicely and keep the flow of the story! I've got some ideas for this, but if you're reading and have any more for me, please share! I'll take every idea into consideration. I'm hoping, too, since it's been nine months, I'm older, and have been writing all this time, I've grown to be a better writer than I was even nine months ago, and that this will be even more enjoying for you to read!
So if you're here reading, all my thanks and my heart goes out to you. It means more than the world to me.
I didn't think I would be saying this, but, my friends, enjoy Chapter 50 of deep blue eyes! 💖
P.S. Sorry in the previous chapters for accidentally putting Neymar in there when he wasn't even present at that setting in the story? My bad!
After stupid Health class, on the nineteenth of April, I dig my sneakers into the porcelain tile flooring and get to my locker as fast as I can, eager to get home.
Halfway through Health class, when I should have been listening to Mr. Levine ramble on about the importance of mental health, I got a text from my brother, informing me that he's at the house for a surprise visit.
I told him it's not much of a surprise anymore, since he just told me, but I don't care, frankly. I just want to get out of this hell (school) and get home to see my older brother, Gale.
I'm not even sure why he's coming so randomly, but, hey! I'm not complaining.
My thoughts of desperation to get out of school, though, are suddenly interrupted, when two strong arms wrap around me from behind, and Antoine's sweet voice exclaims in my ear, "Baby! Look at you, all grown up! You're eighteen now!"
I stare forward, leaning back into him in utter confusion for a second, about to question what the heck he's talking about, until it all clicks in my stupid brain.
Oh my God! I completely forgot it was my birthday today!
"Sage?" Antoine asks. "It is your birthday, right? Oh, God, I got the right day, right?"
I suddenly break out laughing, and turn around to face my boyfriend. "Yes! Yes, you did! I was the one who completely forgot my own birthday!" So that explains why my brother is coming over!
Antoine joins my laughter, saying, holding me closer, "Oh, no way?" All the sudden, here in Antoine's arms, I don't feel so impatient to get out of school and get home. He looks at me with those lovely blue, soft eyes, as he strokes my cheek, apparently finding it endearing that I was so silly to literally forget about my own birthday. "Well, happy eighteenth birthday, Sage. Are you busy after school now?"
I shrug and nod. "My brother is coming over! After he moved out, I hardly get to see him anymore, so I'm super excited to see him."
"Oh..." he slowly nods, and though I know he tries to hide it, I can spot the clear disappointment shining through his bright blue eyes that I'm not available.
So I smile softly, putting a hand on his shoulder as I use the other hand to take my cell phone out of the pocket of my light blue mom jeans, and say, "Oh, Antoine. How about, though, I text my family's group chat and ask if it'd be fine if I brought my boyfriend along from school? That way, they could meet you for the first time, too!"
My boyfriend's eyes soften, but he says nervously, "Are you sure? I don't want to intrude or anything..."
"Antoine, don't worry," I beam, taking my other hand away from his shoulder to begin typing a message to my family. "It's my birthday, after all! Shouldn't I get to choose who's invited? Besides, it's about time you meet my parents. And, plus, my brother is awesome. You'll really like him, I'm sure; everyone likes him."
Antoine nods, smiling fondly. "Well, alright, then... Want to just take my car, then?"
I nod, seeing the messages come in from my parents and brother, confirming it's alright if I bring Antoine home. "Yeah. Let's go."
Soon, Antoine parks the car on the street in front of my house. I exchange a little look with him. He takes my hand and gives it a squeeze before we exit the car together and make our way to my front door. I take out my keys, unlock the door, and barge in, Antoine following, calling, "Guys! We're here!"
Immediately, when Gale appears from the living room at the end of the hall, I run to him, giving him a big hug. "Gale!" I exclaim. He chuckles, and after giving each other a short embrace, I pull away, and step back to put my hand gently on Antoine's back. "Antoine, this is my brother, Gale. Gale, this is my boyfriend, Antoine."
"Nice to meet you," Antoine says politely to the older man in his twenties, putting his hand out. Gale, who is wearing a white shirt, a leather jacket, and black skinny jeans, shakes Antoine's hand promptly, but doesn't return Antoine's warm smile.
Instead, his dark eyes study my boyfriend. There's an unfamiliar, judgmental, coldness to them that I don't like, but before anything else can happen, my parents peek their heads into the hall from the kitchen. "Sage? Gale? Oh, and, Antoine, is it?" my mother asks.
"Ah, yes," Antoine nods, tearing his eyes from Gale's to look over my brother's shoulder and meet my mother's eyes instead. "I'm Antoine."
"Alright, then, guys. Dinner is ready. We ordered from your favourite restaurant, too, Sage."
I nod, and the three of us follow my parents into the kitchen, though after the look my brother gave Antoine, I can't help but feel a certain tightness within my chest.
