"TODOROKI, YUI!"
An object crashed onto my already wobbly head, my weight crumbling below me until a sharp pain resonated in my ribs as I slammed into the ground. After a moment, my staggered breathing began to settle. Taking another breath, I strained to open my eyelids. There was dirt in front of me, but it had an unusual green coloring. The smoke surrounding had faded and the line of trees became visible again. I weakly reached up, my hand grazing the coarse metal on my head.
A mask?
Momo crouched into my view, helping me sit up. She ushered to the smoke around us while I tried to understand her muffled voice. "The smo... don-.. breathe." Her body moved stifly as she motioned around us.
Don't breathe the smoke..
Only one person came to my mind who had a quirk like this. Two new members stood behind Shigaraki. A dark gas mask and school uniform were the noticeable attire of one of the villains, while the other had long, sharp teeth. "Ahhh Yui, meet Moonfish and Mustard." Flakes fell from around Shigaraki's cracked smile as he motioned to the two new members.
I shook my head, physically trying to shake out the thought. T-That's impossible though, right? I gave them the wrong information.
As if listening to my thoughts, a sudden burst of blue flames rose above the tree line in the distance.
A pang of terror resonated through me as my stomach lurched. My hands desperately grasped the edge of the mask, pushing it up just enough for the bottom of my face to peak out. Bile burned my throat, splashing on the ground.
No... no... no...
I steadied my hands against the dirt, finding the strength to push myself off the ground. Desperation flooded my senses.
Does anyone know how serious this threat is?
How does the league know?
Is everyone ok?
Is he ok?
The drowsiness from the smoke had nearly disappeared as Momo stood at the head of a small group of 1-B students that had joined us. Wiping my mouth, I willed the fear lodged in my throat away. "Can you handle this?" My question came out shakier than I intended. Momo's determined glance met mine as she nodded.
Before a word was spoken I ran further into the forest, ditching my mask as I escaped the gas. My steps faltered at first due to the effects of the gas, but after a few steps I started to gain steady footing.
"Katsuki?!"Screams tore through my throat as the ground pounded underneath me. The sting of branches and brush slapped against my skin as I ran.
"Yui?"
A panicked voice called from my left.
I whipped my head in the direction of the sound and began running through the tough terrain.
After pushing through a wall of branches and leaves, I could see him. I couldn't stop the tear that slipped down my cheek as I looked at him.
In an instant, two arms desperately wrapped around me. A broken gasp squeezed past my lips as I embraced him just as tightly. All of my tension melted into him as he held me. Jagged pants escape his lips as he pulls back to face me."Are you ok? Are you hurt?" His hands trace down my face as he glances me over.
"I'm ok-"
Warm lips interrupt me as they crash against mine, holding me captive. For just a moment, I forget the dread of the situation around me and relish in this moment. Pulling back from the kiss he rests his forehead against mine and I realize how stupid I am.
"Katsuki, I need to tell you-"
*BOOM*
A loud crash can be heard behind us, pulling me out of the moment. Now is not the time for confessions, but survival.
"Can you run?" Bakugo asks me.
Due to my exhaustion, a quick nod is all I can give to him.
In a moment, his hand is gripping mine as we take off towards the noise.
"Stick with me. I know you're a badass, but..." A small pleading sigh pushes past his lips as we continue moving. "I need you, Yui."
As much as I try to not feel his words, they destroy me. A small, warm tear rolls down my cheek as I nod at him. "O-Ok." An unfamiliar tremble of worry chops my words.
I could die here.
The league knows I lied or else they wouldn't be here. They won't protect me anymore, if they ever actually did. I've never been afraid of death, but yet I'm still shaking with fear right now.
The fear of losing Bakugo. We stop running just before small clearing. Still holding onto my hand, he lifts it to his mouth, placing a rough kiss on my palm. As if he could read my mind, he rests my palm on his cheek tenderly- holding it there.
"I'm here, Yui. I'm not losing you."
The same crash from earlier rips apart the silence, only it sounds closer this time. A familiar scream follows.
"Ojiro! Look above you!"
In the clearing, a glimmer of metal descending from the sky catches my eye. Sharp blades fall towards Ojiro. Tracing the blades back to their origin, I find Moonfish. Standing tall, his mouth is extended open, lips curving into a grin at the edges.
A loud explosion sounds from next to me, as Bakugo barrels towards sharp steel. A flash of warm light appears as the metal bursts into a million pieces. An intense sting resonates across my cheek as a sharp edge of debris strikes me. Warmth trickles down my chin. I quickly cover my wound with my hand, coating my palm in blood. As I heal the first layer of tissue on my wound, Moonfish sends another unit of blades from his mouth, only this time heading straight for Bakugo.
"NO!"
Sudden intense purple light shoots through my arm, illuminating my veins in its dark glow. My fingers extend as the light bursts from me. The ominous blaze zigzags across the sky in a hypnotizing dance- penetrating Moonfish. The scraggily man crumbles to the ground, a deathly scream emerging from his body.
The world fades around me as I focus on the villain. His agony pulses inside my head as the light extending from me brightens. Moonfish writhes in the dirt. A steady pulse comes forefront in my mind as my vision begins to blur. The beating courses through my muscles in a consistent pattern, merging with the pace of my heart...
A young boy lays on the ground in front of me, tears racing down his cheeks as he clutches his side. Another kick lands on his ribs. "This! This is what happens to filthy traitors of the league, of All for One!" Grabbing onto the hand laid on his own face, Shigaraki tears it from its place, revealing a fatal smile. "Go on, Yui." Pleading eyes dart to mine as the small boy shakes. I feel frozen as I stare at him. Shigaraki's crooked smile began to falter as my hesitation dragged on. Desperately, he reached down, gripping the boys hand. A shattering shriek came from the boy as dust began to fall from where Shigaraki held his hand. "I guess he'll rot then." Clenching my eyes shut, I extended my arm towards the boy.
"AAAAGGGHHHHHHHH"
I stood, listening to his screams. Screams that weakened to whimpers after a few minutes. Then silence. My body tensed as a hand rested on my shoulder.
"Good girl, Yui."
