JIMIN POV

The following morning...

"The key, as promised."

"I finally found it. Go me!"

Park Jimin lifted his stare,
seeing his freedom dangling
from the keychain in Tae's
hand.

Light played off the puddles outside the plate glass window
of the café and glinted on the stainless steel of the key.

He reached up and grasped it, sighing slightly as soon as it
was in his hand.

"Thanks."

"I was starting to worry you wouldn't find it in time."

"Key? For what?"

Jimin's friend and sometimes lover, Kai asked as he lifted
one of his thick brows.

Jimin had tried to find a way
to bring up the subject all through breakfast and had failed.

Luckily Tae answered for him.

"Jimin needs some time away so I'm letting him use my family's lake house for a long weekend because I'm an awesome friend and have the connections."

Tae slid into the booth across from Jimin, leaning against Kai.

He reached onto Kai's plate and snagged a piece of the alpha's bacon and popped it into his mouth.

Kai glared at Tae for a
moment before turning his worried gaze toward Jimin.

"Time away? When?"

"Soon."

He answered before turning his attention back to his breakfast.

Kai put his fork down and
stared.

"This weekend?"

Jimin met the alpha's disappointed stare.

He wasn't ready for this conversation, especially with
Tae paying such close attention.

He looked between the pair before nodding. "Yes."

"Alone?" the alpha prodded.

"Kai... I am capable of being alone on occasion." Jimin said.

"I don't always need a big, bad alpha around to protect me."

An uncomfortable silence fell over the table emanating from the alpha at the table.

Jimin turned to glare at Tae,
who shrugged and slid back out of the booth, gratefully getting the hint.

"While I would like nothing
better than to remain here
and listen to this stimulating conversation, I think it's time
for me to be off to the races."

"People to see, things to paint."

"Kai, if you need something to
do this weekend, you could
head on down to the Jow I'm sure you could find some sad, needy omega to fuck there."

Tae brushed a hand through
Kai's hair.

"In those circles, someone just might find you attractive."

Kai glared.

"Didn't I hear you were down there last heat cycle?"

"I'm not interested in fucking you, Jeon."

Tae grinned widely as he
pulled his hand back.

"Oh, if you were ever that lucky you'd never survive a heat
with me, Meds or no meds."
