Being freshly graduated from college would usually be a wonderful thing right? Being able to go out into the world with your new found knowledge and using it to get a great paying job, hell maybe even your dream job!
But for you it was nothing but that, all you got was a shit ton of student loans and a useless Drama Degree.
You wanted to be out on a stage acting out amazing roles on Broadway! But you've got turned down by almost every theater and acting agency in the area, but hey it comes with the profession. Even the greatest actors and actresses of the world have been turned down when they all first started. So for now you just needed to start with something small.
Maybe Hobby Lobby?
While driving home from the grocery store with your weeks worth of food you've bought you remembered your old drama teacher from school, Mr. Reyes. You were one of his top students and probably his favorite, mainly because you understood his struggles of wanting to make it big in the acting world; also your love for classic theater.
He used to always complain about how he had to practically run everything all by himself and all the stressed it caused him, especially with having to teach hormone filled teenagers. You shudder at the thought, during your High school years you were a pretty calm and quite kid. Always kept to yourself and never causing too much issues for your teachers and avoiding all the popular kids so you didn't put a target on yourself.
But due to that you missed out on a lot of things, such as parties, getting a boyfriend or girlfriend. Having your first kiss........damn.....that's when it just hit you. You're currently 23 and still a virgin, not even! You haven't even had a first kiss!
And to rub salt on the wound, you haven't even been invited to a single party, not even when you were in college. You stare off into space as the realization that you've lived practically the most boring and sad life to ever exist. That is until a loud sound of a car horn blares from behind you.
You snap back to reality and noticed the light you were stopped at had turned green. You drive down the road and make a left turn into an apartment complex. Parking your car, you walk over to the trunk and start to unload the groceries.
Making it to your apartment door you tried to unlock it with a bit of a struggle, trying your best not to drop the bags. That is until you realized you can just place them on the ground to make this a lot easier. You placed the bags down and unlocked the door with ease. Picking up the bags again you shut the door behind you and place the food on the kitchen table.
You pulled out your phone for a bit to scroll through any notifications you might have gotten, and of course.....nothing. You went to place the phone down until you felt it vibrate in your hand. You looked back at the screen to see Mr. Reyes trying to call you, he's had your number since you've graduated since he was the closest thing you had to a father and friend.
"Hey Mr. Rey!" You say happily into the phone.
"Good afternoon Y/N! So how's it living in the real world, does it suck yet?" He replied.
"Don't even get me started, I'm still trying to find a job within the next 2 months. I only have enough money to pay rent until then." You sighed while rubbing one of your temples.
"Well no fret young one! Because that's why I'm calling you, you see the school has decided to divert the drama founds for the fRisBee gOlf team this year if I don't make the drama class and club 'more popular'." You can clearly hear the disappointment in Mr. Reyes voice and the slight annoyance when he said 'frisbee golf'.
He proceeded to continue.
"Let's just say that this might be the year I crack Y/N! I've already went through all of my hot pockets in ONE day! I wont be able to do this alone anymore so I was wondering if you wanted to start this new school year as my assistant drama teacher. Helping out with the paper work, making stage sets and helping me teach the students."
Your eyes gleam at the news, especially since the new school year should be starting within 3 weeks so that's perfect! Without hesitating you acceptted the offer, you and Mr. Reyes continued to talk for another hour about how college went and about any new plays or musicals you might have watched.
When you finally hanged up you started to put the groceries away, only to be sad that the ice cream you bought had melted but you can just buy a new one. You were just happy you landed a job with the profession you like to do, especially since it would look good on your resume for any future jobs.
For the rest of the day you just relaxed and cleaned around the apartment while Hamilton played on your tv through Disney +. You just couldn't stop thinking about starting your new job. When it was time to head to bed you just laid there in silence.
There's no way anything can go wrong this year for you
Right?
