Xiao was given a task from Zhongli to clear a big hillichurl camp near Liyue Harbor, as the enemies brought a not so small amount of trouble to the citizens. He needed to complete it at a specific time: tonight.
As soon as it was midnight, the yaksha took his spear and exited Wangshu Inn. Outside, he saw a bard playing his lyre. His face softened at the sight of his loving boyfriend." Already heading out? "
Venti turned his head towards Xiao, a soft smile on his face.
Venti knew about the mission he had to face, he was a little bit disappointed about it. He really wanted to spend time with the adepti at this very fine night." Yeah, I'll come back soon enough. We'll spend time after. That's a promise. "
" Alright, you better keep it! Until then, I'll be waiting. Good luck! "The bard giggled. It always made Xiao happy whenever the taller one smiled. He nodded and went his way.
Soon enough, Xiao has found the camp. He put on his mask, as he knew he would need to spill a lot of blood.' Zhongli said these are strong ones. If that's true, I'll need to take them down quickly. '
The adepti has made up his mind and proceeded with his task.
He attacked one of the hillichurls from behind and sliced it in half, thus, of course, bringing attention from the remaining enemies. They all charged at him, trying to attack him, but the yaksha was able to dodge it by jumping backwards and landed on his knees. He let out a groan and stood up again to strike them. He used his elemental skill to weaken them, so he would have time to strike again. He succeeded, and was able to take down all of them...almost. One of the enemies, an abyss mage to be exact, was able to escape his attacks and hid behind a tree.As Xiao activated his burst, blood filled what used to be the area of hillichurls. However, he would still sense that the battle was not over yet. He looked around, expecting to catch the last remaining abyss mage.
What happened next, however, was nothing anyone would expect.
The abyss mage came out of its hiding spot and charged at Xiao. He did sense his enemy from behind, but before he could react, it was too late.
The abyss mage used its power on Xiao, and the whole area was filled with an unbearable amount of light." Agh! "
He shouted as he immediately covered his eyes. Brightness. That was the only thing the yaksha could see. He tried to block out the spell, but he was unsuccessful. He noticed the abyss mage was nowhere to be seen, probably due to the light, then, suddenly, he blacked out.
Meanwhile Venti, who was now reading a book he borrowed from the Inn, heard a voice brought by the wind from afar. It was not just a voice, but the voice of his beloved. He immediately looked up from his book, concerned and worried.
' Xiao...?! '
He put the book aside and flew to the spot where he heard the shout. But when he arrived there, no traces of his lover were found. Not even the abyss mage was in the camp. It must have slipped away and went elsewhere. Venti was now disturbed by the thought of the adepti disappearing from the area. His eyebrows furrowed, he knew something was off. He immediately teleported back to the Inn.
He went to the Liyue Harbor, where an old friend of his was located. He found Zhongli sipping his tea, so the bard wasted no time." Zhongli, we got a problem! "
