Erica looked around at her new home. The playground seemed huge to the small girl, endless places to explore. Every inch of it was a new adventure. Smiling, she sat down on the freshly cut grass, taking in the beauty.
Sunlight shone down in rays, bathing the structures in a golden light. The swings were painted in bright hues and every bar on the slide was neatly coated in a shiny substance. There wasn't a flaw in sight.
It was perfect, like the world she was accustomed to. Closing her eyes, she lay down, content for the first time in her life.

A shrill whistle cut through the peaceful silence, calling for her to come.

Running as fast as her short legs could take her, she headed to the meadow where the nice man would be waiting with sweets. He had promised that he would bring her new friends to play with this time so she wouldn't feel lonely anymore.
He said that they were like her so she didn't need to worry. Erica could almost see them laughing and smiling together. It would be the first time she fit in.

As she approached the meadow, she caught sight of her new family. 9 little boys and girls, each with a colourful aura around them. Waving, she ran towards them, a wide grin spread across her face. But as she drew closer, she could tell that something was wrong. They were looking solemnly at the ground, refusing to acknowledge each other. Some of the younger ones were crying. The man with the candy was patting a little girl's head, trying to calm her down.

"It's okay.... This is your new family." He whispered soothingly

The girl sniffed, clearly upset.

"But mama and sister are waiting for me." She said between sobs.

Erica was confused. Who cared about mama and sister? They were a family now. That was all that mattered. Pulling the girl into a hug, she beamed at her.

"Cheer up! I'm your new sister."

The girl looked at her, a hopeful look in her baby blue eyes. Slowly, the hostile mood began to melt.

"Promise you won't leave?" She held out her pinky

"Promise" Erica replied, linking their pinkies together, a childish bond that would last forever
