"can laura not handle herself?" aurora hale asked her older brother. "i don't wanna be back here, derek."

derek was currently driving to beacon hills, their old home, the place that traumatised rory and the remaining hale's who didn't burn to death.

"rory." derek softly said, quickly glancing at his sister. "we've not heard from her for weeks and we knew she was coming back here." he explained.

"yeah." aurora muttered. "i get that but why couldn't i have stayed behind? i'm 16 now, der. not a child."

"technically you're still a child rory." derek let out a small laugh. "you need to stop acting like an adult all the time."

"oh, so now i act too much like an adult? but two days ago you were saying how i need to grow up and act like an adult?" aurora ranted. "make your mind up, jesus." she grumbled.

derek let out a sigh, rory's life had taken a turn for the worse. when the fire occurred, rory and derek's other sister, cora was eleven years old and rory was ten, cora presumably died saving aurora's life and the girl has blamed herself for her sisters death ever since. derek and laura were at school during the fire so then the only other survivors were aurora and peter, the siblings' uncle, who survived but had severe burns all over his body and was comatose.

aurora played with her mother's necklace, it wasn't anything special but it had the hale pack symbol on it, which made it special to aurora.

"once we find laura can we please go back home?" aurora begged, turning to derek with a pleading look on her face.

derek glanced at his sister and hesitated for a moment. "we'll see."

aurora huffed, slumping into the passenger seat of derek's camaro. "when can i drive your car?" she asked.

derek let out a laugh as if her question was stupid. "never."

"aww c'mon. at least buy me a car then." she grumbled. "it's the least you could do dragging me back here."

"you're probably gonna be even angrier at me once i tell you i enrolled you at beacon hills high school." derek uttered, glancing at rory who was in shock.

aurora's jaw was practically on the floor. "you're kidding, right?"

derek simply shook his head, trying to contain his laughter.

"oh my god, i hate you." aurora whined. "how could you do this to me, how could you betray me like this?"

...

a few days later was aurora's first day at beacon hills high school. she was pissed derek enrolled her without telling her.

"i'm still mad at you." aurora told derek. "just because you're considering buying me a car doesn't mean i have forgiven you."

"alright, rory." derek rolled his eyes. "now get out of the car and get to class."

rory pulled an offended look at her brother. "wow, first you force me to come back to beacon hills, then you enrol me at the high school and now you're kicking me out of your car. best big brother in the world." she ranted but got out of the car.
