"when are you gonna get a real place?" aurora grumbled. "i'm sick of living in this tiny crappy apartment, derek."

"i thought you didn't wanna stay?" the man taunted. "so why would i pay for a nicer place?"

"because, i don't deserve to live like this." aurora replied sassily, her hands on her hips.

"you're spoilt."

"only because you buy me stuff all the time. what am i supposed to do? get a job?" rory laughed.

derek stayed silent for a moment. "yes."

rory blinked at the man in shock. "what?"

"you're turning into a brat, rory. you need a job."

rory gasped. "i am not turning into a brat, this is your fault."

"go to your room and go to sleep, rory. you have another exciting day at school tomorrow." derek teased, pulling rory into a side hug.

"whatever." the girl muttered, trying to hide her smile.

"oh, also, i need to you become friends with scott and stiles." derek added.

aurora's jaw dropped. "no way. i don't do friends and i especially don't do newly turned werewolf friends."

"please, rory. i'll buy you a car." he bargained.

aurora thought for a moment. "fine." she huffed and walked to her room.

...

a couple of days had passed since derek told aurora he wanted her to befriend the two boys, thankfully her plan had actually been working. scott and stiles told her she should come to the party on friday, which was today.

she had refused at first, but the boys were quite persuasive. rory could tolerate scott, but stiles? god, he was a whole new level of annoying. he constantly made sarcastic comments to rory and just annoyed the hell out of her.

the police were still questioning people about the body in the woods, even derek. the other half of the body still hadn't been found, which was just weird.

"i want you to try out for a sports team at school." derek spoke and he drove aurora to school.

rory let out a laugh. "hell no."

"the lacrosse team are doing extra tryouts this morning, just give it a go, rory." derek pleaded, looking over at his sister.

"why? we are gonna be leaving soon anyways. what's the point of trying out for anything if we're gonna be gone in a few weeks." rory ranted, her fingers tapping on her seat.

"that's the thing, rory..." derek paused. "we aren't leaving beacon hills." he finished awkwardly.

"what?!" rory growled. "you promised we wouldn't be staying here."

"i know, rory. but this isn't just about finding laura anymore. it's about the alpha, it's about scott." derek explained.

"seriously?" the girl scoffed. "we are staying in beacon hills because of scott?"

"he's a newly turned werewolf, rory. it'd be stupid to leave, he could kill someone, and i can help him. so can you." derek sighed.

"and since when did you care about anyone other than yourself, huh?" aurora sniffled.

derek glanced at aurora, a betrayed look on his face. "rory."

"just forget it, derek. you wanna stay in beacon hills? fine, we'll stay." she snapped, facing the window.

...

aurora met up with scott and stiles when she arrived at school. "derek wants me to try out for lacrosse, do you think coach will let me?" she asked scott.

"if you're good then probably." scott replied.

"i'm good at everything, lacrosse will be as easy as walking." rory scoffed.

"are you ever not full of yourself, aurora?" stiles chimed in, looking at the girl.

aurora thought for a moment. "no." she gave him a sarcastic sweet smile and began walking to the girl's locker room.

when she arrived, aurora changed into some lacrosse gear she took from coach's office. "god, i can't believe i'm doing this." she muttered to herself.

...

rory placed the helmet on her head and walked onto the lacrosse field. nobody had even noticed there was a girl on the field. the girl placed herself near scott. the boy looked at her with wide eyes, aurora smirked and sent him a nod.

coach blew his whistle and the ball was immediately thrown to a player near rory, he passed the ball to someone in front of him, rory ran ahead, her lacrosse stick ready to catch the ball, and when the boy threw the ball to her she did. aurora ran towards the goal, harshly barging into other players, knocking them to the ground.

"holy hell!" she heard coach yell.

rory let out a small laugh and when she was close enough she took her shot for the goal, she swung her lacrosse stick backwards and swung towards the goal, when the ball landed in the net, players on the team and people on the beaches erupted into cheers.

"who the hell is that?!" coach yelled.

aurora took off her helmet, her long hair falling down her back.

"you! come here!" coach shouted over at rory.

aurora walked over to the older man, with a smile. "yes, coach?" she asked.

"what's your name and why haven't i seen you before?" he asked.

"i'm aurora hale, i started this week." the girl explained.

"that." coach pointed to the goal. "was incredible!"

aurora shrugged. "it was nothing."

"no, no. that was amazing, you're on the team." coach, patted the girls back. "what number do you want?"

aurora paused for a moment. "four." she nodded. derek's old basketball number was four, despite their argument earlier that morning, derek had practically raised aurora when they lost their family, the least she could do was stay in beacon hills for him.
