"why can i smell laura, der?" aurora turned around to look at her brother. "is she here?" she began to find herself getting excited to see her sister.
"rory-"
"why do you seem off?" she asked.
"rory, laura she... she's the dead body they found." derek winced telling his little sister she had lost another family member.
aurora faltered slightly, squeezing her eyes shut. "how long have you known?" she asked, betrayal written all over her face, knowing he didn't have the guts to tell her when he first found her.
derek sighed, reaching out for aurora. "rory-"
"how long have you known?" she asked again, feeling herself get angry.
"the night we got here. rory i'm so-"
aurora took in a deep breath. "were you even gonna tell me?" she asked.
"yes." he replied.
aurora listened for his heartbeat. he was telling the truth.
"where have you buried her?" she felt herself falling to the ground, derek caught her before she harshly hit the ground. tears streamed down her face, but she wasn't making a sound, she felt numb.
"she's on the property. i'll show you." derek spoke softly to the girl, helping her stand up and taking her around the side of the house to see her grave. it was quite literally a pile of dirt with a wolfsbane flower on the top.
"rory?" derek asked.
tears still poured from her eyes as she looked up at him.
"she wouldn't want you to shut down like you tend to do. you can't shut down again, rory." he held her in his arms, stroking her hair softly.
aurora stayed silent, her eyes glued to her sister's grave. derek was all she had left and she'd be damned if she lost her brother too.
derek's head shot towards the woods. "go inside." he told her.
"what-"
"now, rory."
"alright, alright." she stood up, wiping her face with her hoodie, and headed inside her old home, derek following behind her.
she smelt scott. "oh, great." she muttered.
"derek!" scott shouted. "derek!" he shouted again.
aurora was still inside but assumed scott had now seen derek. "stay away from her!" the young wolf shouted. "she doesn't know anything."
"yeah?" derek asked. "what if she does? you think your little buddy stiles can just google 'werewolves' and now you got all the answers, is that it?"
aurora stepped onto the porch of her former home, watching derek and scott.
"you don't get it yet, scott, but i'm looking out for you." derek told the boy. "think about what could happen. you're out on the field, the aggression takes over and you shift in front of everyone."
aurora sighed, knowing this would rile scott up even more, and he was a stubborn kid too.
derek picked up scott's lacrosse stick. "your mom, all your friends, and when they see you." he pointed the stick at scott but the younger boy quickly hit it away. derek's claws ripped through through the net of the stick like it was paper. "everything falls apart." he finished slowly.
scott glanced over at aurora who kept her head down, the boy thought maybe she wasn't as tough as she made out to be.
derek through the stick in the air into scott's direction, as he was distracted, derek disappeared. aurora still stood on the front porch.
...
derek and aurora stayed at their house until it began to get dark, they both went in their separate cars.
"race me?" aurora laughed. "you won't."
"yes, you're right rory. i won't, you wanna know why?" he asked. "because it is illegal."
"alright, sorry, dad." she rolled her eyes getting into her car, turning up her music, and driving back to the apartment. derek said he lived at the house but aurora thinks he did that for show, who would live in a house that got burnt down, and had no electricity or comfy living arrangement? yeah, aurora didn't know either.
