Chapter 3: Fun Times

It is now the end of the school day as Carter is at his locker getting his stuff. After closing his locker, he begins walking to the club room. As he is walking, he spots Xavier, Zeke, and Cameron, "Hey guys, you're not going to practice?" he asked. "Nope, practice is canceled for today." Zeke said. "Really?" Carter asked. "Yeah. Coach had to go to physical therapy so he gave us the day off." Cameron said. "Okay. So what are you guys up to?" Carter said. "We're heading over to my house to play some Madden. Wanna join us?" Xavier asked. "I would, but I have other plans." Carter said. "Really? What plans could you have after school aside from football practice?" Xavier asked. "Oh, just some after school studying. Gotta keep my grades up so I can stay on the team. Right?" Carter said. "He does have a point." Zeke said as he shrugged his shoulders. "Well alright then. But you're really gonna miss out on me beating Zeke's butt." Xavier commented, "Hey!" Zeke said in response. "Haha, well catch you guys later." Carter said as he walked away from his friends. A few minutes later he arrives at the club room, "Hey guys." he said as he entered the room, seeing Ryan and Henry were the only ones there. "Hey man, you made it." Ryan said. "So am I early?" Carter asked as he approached the two. "Yeah. Everybody else usually shows up at about 3. Ryan and I just got here about 5 minutes before you." Henry said. "Ah okay." Carter commented before asking the two boys "So what do you guys normally do until the others show up?". "Well, I pretty much just tune my guitar and do some covers to other songs." Ryan said. "I mostly just watch videos on my phone." Henry said. "Cool." Carter said. A few minutes later, the other members walk into the room. "Oh Carter, you made it." Sicily said to Carter, "Of course, I did say that I would do my best to make it." he replied. Sara then walked up to the front of the room, "Alright. Now that all of the members are here, I would like to get this meeting started. First things first, we should talk about what song we should play at the homecoming dance." she said. "So does anyone have any suggestions for what we should sing?" Sara then asked. "How about we do 'Stereo Hearts'?" Ryan suggested. "Sorry Ryan but we did that last year. I want to do a song that we've never done before." Sara said to Ryan, "Alright." he replied. "What about 'Good Life'?" Maya then suggested. "Maya, remember the last time we sang that song?" Sicily asked. "Yeah I got so embarrassed that I stayed in my room for a whole week." Ryan said. "Sorry I forgot." Maya apologized. As the other members were talking, Carter was thinking before speaking up, "Um, what if we did a duet of something like 'Stay'?" he asked. "That actually sounds like a good idea." Seth said, "Yeah I think we should totally do it." Henry said shortly after with the others nodding their heads. "So we're all in agreement?" Sara asked the other members, who nodded again. "Then it's official. We'll be performing a duet of 'Stay' for the homecoming dance." Sara said as she wrote the song title on the blackboard before turning to face the club, "Now then, who's going to sing in the duet?" she asked. "I think it's obvious that the lead singers should be the ones." Seth said as he looked at Carter and Sicily. "Wait, what?" Carter asked in confusion, "Yeah I never agreed to that!" Sicily said shortly after. "Well since you're the lead female singer and Carter's our new lead male singer, it would make sense for you guys to do it." Seth said. "I second that motion." Michael said with a smug look on his face. "I don't know guys." Sicily said. "Yeah I mean, how about you Sara? Why don't you do the duet?" Carter asked with a bead of sweat on his cheek. "Sorry Carter, but I'll have to decline." Sara said. "Maya? What about you? Surely you can sing, right?" Carter asked as he turned to the neon red head, "Sorry, can't help you there amigo." she replied. Carter then let out a sigh, "Oh alright. I'll do it." Carter said defeated. "Well if he's doing it, then I guess I'll do it as well." Sicily said, also defeated. "Then it's unanimous. The duet will be sang by Carter and Sicily." Sara said as she wrote their names on the blackboard before, once again, turning to face the others. "Alright. Now that we know who's going to be singing, let's get to rehearsing." Sara said with enthusiasm. As the others got to their positions, Seth brought out two mics for Carter and Sicily to sing with. [A/N: The video above is what Carter and Sicily sound like for their duet.] After the two took a deep breath, Michael started playing his keyboard. After a few seconds, Carter started singing. "I do the same thing, I told you that I never would. I told you I changed, even when I knew I never could. I know that I can't find nobody else as good as you. I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey!" he sang before Sicily sang "I get drunk, wake up, I'm wasted still. I realize the time that I wasted here. I feel like you can't feel the way I feel. I'll be messed up if you can't be right here." she sang. "Oh-whoa (oh-whoa, whoa), Oh-whoa (oh-whoa, whoa) Oh-whoa (oh-whoa, whoa), I'll be messed up if you can't be right here. I do the same thing, I told you that I never would. I told you I changed, even when I knew I never could. I know that I can't find nobody else as good as you. Carter sang, "Ain't no way that I can leave you stranded 'Cause you ain't never left me empty-handed. And you know that I know that I can't live without you. So, baby, stay!" Sicily sang shortly after. "Oh-whoa (oh-whoa, whoa) Oh-whoa (oh-whoa, whoa) Oh-whoa (oh-whoa, whoa) I'll be messed up if you can't be right here! I do the same thing, I told you that I never would. "I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey!" the two singers closed out. After they both took a deep breath, the whole club applauded for the singers, "Man! First day of rehearsal and you guys were amazing!" Seth said as he walked over to the band. "Yeah. Guess we made a really good decision about having you guys do the singing." Henry said as he got up from his drums before Carter and Sicily looked at each other and smiled. "Yeah. I guess we did." Sicily said. "Couldn't agree more." Carter commented. "Well it may have been good for a first rehearsal, but we should probably go through the song again to see what we can do." Sara suggested. "Fine by me." Carter said as he and the others got back to their positions and started rehearsing again.
