My house had two bedrooms, a living room, a dining table of four people, a small kitchen, and one bathroom. It was a simple house I had lived in for the past five years. My mom would usually come over and stay for a night or two. Sometimes, I would have new co-workers stay over until they could find a permanent place.
Right now, my mom just decided to invite Beomgyu to my house for the night when he lives next door. Aish, maybe I should go to sleep in the hospital today. But why? This is my place. Plus, I don't trust him. What if he does something stupid. Aish mom, why did you invite him?
We sat at the dining table eating fried chicken that I ordered and paid for the food. My mom was interrogating Beomgyu, asking him all types of questions. Right now is the only time where I wish I didn't exist.
"So, Beomgyu, do you have a job?" My mom started, and I rolled my eyes
"I work as a general surgeon at the Town Hospital. today is my first day," he said as he ate the chicken happily, it annoyed me
"Oh wait, you are the new staff. Eunha told me about you," she said excitedly. I wish I didn't exist because my eye was fixed on the pile of chicken in front of me, but I can feel Beomgyu staring at me and probably smirking in a teasing way.
"Oh really? That's interesting. I hope she said good things about me," he chuckled, I looked at him, and I was right. He was smirking at me, so I just focused on the chicken in my hand.
"But if you work here, why do you live far away? The town is pretty small," My mom asked.
Now it was my time to shine.
"Yeah, Beomgyu, why do you live so far away? Doctor Nam can let you stay at his place," I said, wiggling my eyebrows at him purposely while smirking since he lied about living far when in reality he lives with Doctor Nam, who is my neighbour.
"If you want, Eunha can lend you one of the rooms here. she does use the other room."
What?!
My stomach dropped when my mom said that.
This is my house. Why would she give authorisation to someone else to stay at MY home?
Never mind, she is my mom.
"Really? Oh, I hope she doesn't mind lending me the room. Do you, Eunha?" Beomgyu said teasingly.
"I can't," I said, and his smirk dropped.
"Why not?" my mom said
"No, I can't. Doctor Nam can lend him a room. I will talk to him." I said
"Ani, why? you always let new workers stay at your place when they first start to work here." mom said
"Mom, I said no. Plus, he lives near-" Beomgyu cut me off.
"It's okay, aunty. I'm sure Doctor Nam wouldn't mind letting me stay at his place," Beomgyu said, and his face flushed, veins throbbing in his neck. It was very subtle, though. I looked at him, and he was glaring at me. Is he furious at me right now? It's my place. I just looked away. I felt terrible at the same time. Maybe I shouldn't have been harsh at rejecting him? Perhaps I should have just played along? Ah, I don't know.
