I sprinted to the emergency room. That's when I saw the first responders wheeling in the patients. The emergency room was chaotic, and there were a lot of patients. Nurses and doctors everywhere. The emergency was loud.
There was a lot of blood.
Each time I see a patient, they are bleeding somehow. I took a deep breath, trying not to freak out.
"Doctor Min here", a nurse pointed at me. I walked over immediately "he has Hemoperitoneum. It seems like he needs surgery" Hemoperitoneum {The blood accumulates in the space between the inner lining of the abdominal wall and the internal abdominal organs}
"Call the anesthesiologist and prepare for the operation," I said, looking over the CT scan, then examining the patient to put a stomach tube to let the internal bleeding come out instead of accumulating in the body.
"Doctor Park, the patient is in cardiac arrest" I looked over to the bed behind me where there was another patient. Doctor Park rushed and started administering CPR.
I looked back at the patient I was working on and saw the nurse had already prepared the equipment for me to operate the stomach tube. I immediately started working on the patient.
Focus... Please focus....
I told myself to try to calm down. My hands were shaking slightly, my blood was rushing, and my heartbeat fast and hard against my chest. I managed to finish the procedure. that's when I heard
"Time of death is five fifteen pm. Park Jai has expired," I heard Doctor Park say behind me.
My blood ran cold, and my heart stopped beating for a moment
Another patient died.
Fridays were always the worst. It is always hectic. From one operation room to another. Calls everywhere. Nurses and doctors are rushing, and it's so crowded. And the worst part is there is always at least one death from major trauma.
"Why the fuck are you here? YOU ARE THE TRUCK DRIVER" A voice screamed. I looked up, still working on the patient, and it was one of the cyclists, from what I can tell from his clothing, running towards another patient. "YOU MURDERED HIM, MY FRIEND, AND YOU ARE HERE TO GET TREATMENT. YOU SHOULD DIE"
I looked at the truck driver sitting on a bed, and he seemed in a lot of pain. He was clutching his chest and leaning forward. I put my eyes back to the patient that I was working on.
"What happened to the truck driver?" I asked, glancing between the patient and the cyclist who was yelling and now being held back by security
"He hit his chest on the steering wheel, but it didn't seem serious," the nurse said. Something is off, though. It seems like he is having heart or breathing problems.
"Doctor Min, you go check on the truck driver. I will do the stomach tube," Doctor Park said as he approached. I nodded and walked over to the truck driver to check up on him.
