Evelyn Swan
The blinding hospital lights seemed far less overstimulation now that the horrible hummingbird like thrumming of my heart had finally calmed itself down. Tyler was still even now spilling out apologies no matter how many times I had assured him he was forgiven for the accident. The hustle of the busy bodies around the local hospital brought a strange sense of comfort to me, after the near senselessness of the accident, it was reassuring to feel grounded back into reality. Bella managed to catch a ride in the ambulance with me and was awkwardly potting about next to my bed as we found ourselves at a loss for words.
"Evelyn, you Okay?" came dad's worried voice as he burst through the doors "You and I are gonna talk" he warned Tyler as he walked past his bed.
"I'm fine dad, really, you can calm down" I smiled in what I hoped was reassurance.
"I'm sorry Evelyn I tried to stop" Tyler once again began apologising.
"I know its okay" I started feeling like a broken record, repeating the same few sentiments to the boy over and over again.
"No. It sure as hell is not okay" dad fumed."Dad it really wasn't his fault, it was icy and he tried to stop"
"You could've been killed you understand that" It was hard to listen to him sounding so worried, I couldn't even imagine what it would be like for him to lose either me or Bella, especially so quickly after he had finally gotten us back from Rene.
"I know dad, but I'm still here, besides, you'd have to more than that to get rid of me" I joked trying to lighten the mood.
Dad gave a brief smile before his look hardened and he tilted his head towards Tyler "You can kiss your license goodbye"Before our bickering could continue any further the double doors once again opened but this time to an incredibly pale yet conventionally attractive doctor. He shared the same golden eyes that the rest of the Cullens had, golden blonde hair styled perfectly. It was obvious just from looking at him that his was doctor Cullen, his appearance matched the description that Alice had given me when I asked about her family. His uniform much like the rest of him was immaculate and tidy, seemingly untouched by the chaotic environment that surrounded him.
"I heard the chief's daughter was here" he greeted warmly, voice smooth and rich.
"Dr Cullen" dad greeted.
"Charlie"
"I've got this one Jackie" Dr Cullen spoke softly to the nurse, taking the clipboard that she was holding and he began to look through the papers."Evelyn?"
"The one and only"
"Well Evelyn it looks like you took quite the spill, how do you feel?" He gave me a warm smile as he finished reading my file."Good, better" I responded.
"Look here" he pulled a small light from his pocket as he held up a pale finger for my eyes to follow "You might experience some post-traumatic stress or disorientation, but your vitals look good no signs of any head trauma I think you'll be just fine." Dr Cullen concluded seemingly satisfied with my current condition.
"I'm so sorry Evelyn, I'm really" but before Tyler could continue dad sternly pulled the curtain behind him to separate him from us, a look of irritation crossing his face."It would have been a whole lot worse if Jasper wasn't there, he knocked her out the way" Bella chimed in for the first time since arriving in the hospital, her silence was obviously due to her thinking about what had happened at school. A small part of me wanted to kick her for opening her mouth, she could have at least been grateful for the blonde boy for saving my life and questioning his father didn't sit right with me. It was like she had some stipulations about the Cullens, and if I know my sister then her stubborn nature wouldn't be satisfied until she had an answer. Thinking back on it now, despite the oddities that the Cullens displayed, I couldn't bring myself to be upset over what secrets they may or may not be hiding.
