YUKITARO
My room was pretty small: It had a desk and two chairs, a two-person bed, a bedside table and a huge window bordered with a creeper. The room was lit by 3 candles. I blew out all of them, lay on my bed and fell asleep instantly.
My dreams were all murky and unclear. But the last one I remember was Inoya's ice-blue eyes were leaking red fluid.
I woke with Inoya's faint yell. The sun wouldn't shine for hours. I scrambled out of bed and rushed to her side.
Inoya was clutching her head and coiled into a ball. Her hair was in a twisted mess. She rolled around and kicked her blanket. It was another nightmare.
"Please" She mumbled in a frightened voice. She was dampened by sweat. Dark feathers were all over her.
Her forehead was on fire. I made a chilly blob and placed it on her head with one hand, my other on the youth's shoulder. I shook her while calling her name. Her eyes streamed out tears of fear. "No, please!" She kept mumbling.
I gently patted her cheek. Still no sign of waking up. She seemed to be struggling in her dream. "Stop!" She winced as if she was in pain. I had to think of a way to wake her.
Inoya suddenly lifted her head and sat up shrieking. It spooked me and I lost concentration on the water blob. It popped on Inoya's head and drenched her. She cried out of frustration. "Inoya stop!" I tried to control her.
She had a hard time surpassing her cries into sobs. While she did, I sucked all the water and chucked it out the window. Inoya's tears were the only thing wet.
She hugged her knees and tucked her head. "Tell her to stop laughing." She wailed weakly. What laugh?
I offered a cup of water. She drank half of it and kept it aside. She looked frightened to death. "Inoya, you good?" I tried to comfort her. She opened her mouth to speak but couldn't.
"Calm down Inoya. Focus on this blob." I requested, shaping the remaining water from the cup. I made many figures: first looked like a raindrop, a snowflake to a castle.
She looked distracted by thoughts. "Hey, tell me. What is freaking you out? Last night too you woke up the same way." She did not want to answer it. She kept opening her mouth, look at me and then end up saying nothing.
"I just want to help you." I persuaded her. She finally mustered courage and spoke about her mother's and father's quarrel, the shiny person, A female voice, and Ishimi speaking in that voice. While she did, I combed her waist-length hair and fastened it into a high bun, leaving her bangs untied.
"When do you hear her laugh?" "In last night's dream, I woke up hearing it. And, after the incident with the dog..." She stopped. She hears a girl's eerie laughter when she is filled with fear I guessed. But why can't we hear it?
"Also," She started. "I was stabbed by Ishimi in my dreams... I think he is dangerous." Inoya's tone was sad. She trusted the dude. I thought of an easily executable plan.
"Let's not jump to the conclusion that he's necessarily a bad guy. We can keep observing him. If he harms you, then we'll end him. If he is not, then that's a good thing 'cause we need him." "Alright." Inoya finally agreed.
"Now get some rest Inoya. You need it." I scowled. She wouldn't budge. "If I sleep, she will creep me with her grin. I can't sleep with that image popping in my head every time I close my eyes" She argued.
"I'll be by your side," I reassured her by taking her hand. "Besides, I'm good at fighting monsters." I bluffed. "Don't leave me." Inoya whined. "I promise I'll be here." I pledged. She blanketed herself. after a while, I heard soft snores.
For a while, I could keep it together and stay awake. Looking at her sleep in peace made me glad.
In the morning, I found myself sleeping on the bed with Inoya sitting beside me in a new outfit.
