AU idea: when getting MC they accidentally get the wrong MC. This MC is from a parallel universe where there was a plague in the Devildom that caused all demons to completely lose control. They're stuck in their feral forms (if you've seen people make art of them you know what i'm talking about- their demon forms but more monstery looking) and they hardly have coherent thoughts anymore and they feel this intense need to kill anything that gets in their way. The only need greater than this is the need to satisfy their sins. (with many of them this will probably mean killing) Demons can only get the plague if they are 100% demon. (Which means any hybrids in the Devildom need to leave quickly)
The plague works slowly, catching the lower demons first. Negative emotions cause it to take effect faster. Diavolo's dad dies during the chaos of the first wave (he's probably killed in his sleep but you can adjust this) and this causes him to turn before the brothers do. this causes a domino effect with Lucifer getting turned and the rest of his brothers succumbing afterward. (because even Satan and Belphie care about Luci even if they deny it)
I also think that the plague would affect their relationships with each other. Certain strong feels would leak through the plague, but they wouldn't be specific and sometimes their sins would outweigh certain feelings.
After a while Diavolo or Lucifer (but probably Dia,, basically his feral brain wouldn't know that he likes humanity but would know that he was fixated on humans and their world for some reason) would break into the human world, letting a bunch of lesser demons in.
This is when heroes start to gather, the hybrids, the sorcerers, anyone who really wants to protect humanity. They'd fight the lesser demons and keep them at bay but none of them are prepared for when Diavolo eventually enters the human world along with a few of the brothers. these are the most poweful demons they've ever faced and they have no idea how to deal with them until they find MC.
a group of sorcerers discovers that MC has the blood of demons, angels, and humans running through their veins. They think that if they can get their magic to rise to the surface, maybe they have hope to save humanity.
After a lot of training MC finally starts fighting demons but they are never truly prepared to face the brothers and Diavolo. After all, how would they be, they've only had this magic for a little while.
After a long time MC enters the demon realm with a few of their battle partners, trying to find a way to get rid the plague or at least keep the demons at bay. This is their team's most dangerous move yet. Through some research in the human world they discover the grimoire and their current mission is to get it and hope it works. (they also learn more about what the plague was from Satan's notes about it once they get into the HoL) but even the feral versions of the brothers know that they need to protect that thing so the battle is long and very deadly.
MC gets sent to the Devildom during this battle and it isn't long before they recognize the demons in front of them.
