a quick rant about werewolf fanfics bc this book doesn't have many reads

This story doesn't have many reads and I don't wanna start a whole new one just for this, so ill put this little rant here. Also TW for mentions of abuse and kink.

Werewolf fanfiction is as repetitive as the day as long. The majority of them have the same plot and there is only one I can say was particularly life-changing for me to read. I've read a few good werewolf fics on Episode but after a while, the plots started getting repetitive and some of them were obviously just used for whump and not much else. Like, I get there needs to be conflict but why does the MC have to be constantly abused? Edgy backstories are cool but slow down on some of the conflicts so she has time to process her trauma and possibly recover.

Also, the alpha/omega system kinda weirds me out. I like it when it's used to benefit the plot/lore of the story in a significant way, but if it's just used as an excuse for dom/sub stuff it grosses me out. Also, can somebody tell me the real differences between alphas, betas, and omegas? Because it seems like it's implied that they have a real biological difference (ex: they recognize alphas almost immediately by appearance and/or smell) but no fics actually walk us through those differences. I like characters with animal-like traits but if those traits aren't explained fully (especially when I'm not familiar with the animal) it gets me kind of confused. And wouldn't werewolves have a slightly different system than actual wolves?

Thinking about werewolf fanfics makes me really nostalgic, but I'm dying for some new plotlines. Also, why are all the werewolf fanfics focused on hetero relationships? It's always some straight muscled white/slightly tan male alpha with a smol abused white girl. Like, babes, it's ok to make your own original characters that aren't just duplicates of other characters. And why is the boy always super serious why the girl is sensitive, emotional, and quirky. I feel like someone who's been through years of abuse would be a little hesitant to show her sensitive side to the first alpha she sees, but that's just my opinion. ;-;

Also, I feel like more of these stories should incorporate humans in them. It's always just werewolves super distant from regular society, locked up in some forest somewhere. I'm sure lots of these plots would go way differently if humans actually went in these forests. Like maybe we could get a story about a human saving a rouge werewolf from a bunch of other werewolves. (the rouge would be the only one in human form) Maybe the human would take the werewolf home and they'd fall in love, only realizing that they're a werewolf weeks or even months later.

Also, why does every werewolf fanfic need romance? Why can't there be an ace/aro protagonist in one of these stories? Why can't we have the hurt/comfort and the trauma recovery without the (sometimes unnecessary) romance subplot? I just want cute little werewolf friends ok?! And if the alpha has to get married to the protag, you could always have them be in a queerplatonic relationship. Or maybe the alpha is aro so he doesn't want to get married, but then he meets this really good friend and they marry out of convenience. (because the alpha needs a queen doesn't he? isn't that a rule in these stories)

if you read my dumb rant, get sure to tell me your thoughts in the comments. Bye :)
