Shadouge- Partners till the End.

Ch. 5

          After GUN got them back to HQ, they took whatever samples they could off of Cortez. Rouge is watching the little Mongoose thru the one-way mirror, as GUN gave him a checkup. She wanted so much to be in there with him. "Are you alright?" Knuckles asked, Rouge. "Ya. I'm alright. Just scratched up is all." Knuckles looks again at Rouges back and shoulders, they were well bandaged up now. "That little brat, hurt you." Knuckles said gruffly with a crossed look on his face. "Now don't you dare." Rouge said immediately before Knuckles could say anything more...

        "I'm... going to halve to relive Mighty now." Knuckles tells her. Mighty is the only other one Knuckles trust to guard the Master Emerald when he's gone. "Will you be alright?" Knuckles asked again with a questioning look at his girlfriend. "Yes. I'll be alright." Rouge tells him as she rubs her crossed arms. Knuckles kisses Rouge on the side of the face, "Please don't worry too much." Like that Rouge was in that room alone, until Shadow walked in.

        Shadow looks thru the glass as Cortez fights against the doctors. "You alright?" Shadow asked not looking away from the glass. "Ya, its nothing I can't handle." Rouge answered him in her normal tone. "I wasn't asking how you were feeling. I asked if you are alright?" Shadow says again. Rouge sighs, "I wish its me in there with him. Just so he knows someone's there for him." Shadow just turns and leaves, Rouge just shakes her head, she knew he didn't want to hear this. However, her ears flickered to the sound of the door opening up. Shadow had gone into the other room and waved out the doctors to leave, when one refused; Shadow gave him a glare that made him listen. Before closing the door Shadow winked at the mirror.

        Rouge couldn't help but smirk. Shadow isn't one to show his emotions, but he does in his actions. Rouge walked around to the next room and knocked on the door. "Cortez. Sweety. Its the bat girl. I'm coming in." Rouge walked in to find the little Mongoose hiding around the little table. "Hey, sweety." Rouge gets down on one knee, "How about we go somewhere a little less scary?" The Mongoose thinks for a moment then nods his head, yes.

        Rouge carries Cortez to Team Darks private showers. Since they are always being sent off somewhere, GUN gave them it so they can clean up in a hurry if needed. Rouge helps the little mongoose out of the hospital robe and gets him into a tub. She starts cleaning the kid, getting the grime off him as he played with the bubbles and Shadow's rubber duck. Rouge takes a rag and cleans his face, "And he-re we have a nose. And two eyes." Cortez giggled as Rouge cleaned him. She was shocked to find out that this little brown and black mongoose was actually blue. When they get done in the tub, Rouge finds that someone left a change of clothes for them and a cart of some food.

        Cortez walked beside Rouge and she helped him up on the small couch they had in their shared office space. Cortez was drooling by the smell of the food. 'The poor thing is nearly skin and bone.' Rouge thought to herself as she helped feed Cortez the chicken soup, but he soon took full control of feeding himself.

        Rouge wakes up later with Cortez sleeping on top of her. They had fallen asleep on the couch, and a blanket was draped over them. "Your awake." Rouge looked over towards Shadows desk to see the Hedgehog there. She moved the sleeping mongoose's grip from her tank top as she tucked him in. "Injoy~ watching me sleep?" Rouge called out to Shadow. "You needed the sleep. You both did." Shadow answers her. "Thanks for all that." She thanked Shadow. "It was Omega's idea. The kid needed some kind of food." Shadow tells her. "And the blanket and tucking us in?" She asked, having Shadow remain silent.
