Ch. 29.5

      Shadow marches up the flight of stairs to his apartment, since the elevator was in need of some updated stuff. He shuffles through his keys to unlock the deadbolt, but finds it already unlocked. He walks in and finds a suitcase packed by the couch. He hears the toilet flush and soon Sally acorn walks out. She was wearing a blueish green shirt with a dark navy jacket, along with a short skirt with black leggings and her leather boots. 
      She stutters in her step when she sees him. "Shadow. What are you doing here?" She asked. "This is my place." He tells her in a nonchalant tone, "The real question is why did you pack your things?" He asked questionably.  
       Sally moves her long hair out of her eyes, clearly having trouble getting the words out. Shadow thinks he said something in the wrong tone, "What I mean is. I don't mind you staying here with me."
      "That's not the reason." Sally says quickly. She takes a breath, "I think its time we ended, what ever this is, before it becomes something too serious..." She goes to the coffee table to grab some of her mail she brought. Shadow helps her pick up her things, "Sally, I know things are a little... weird right now." He pulls out her thong that was hidden in the couch, and she quickly puts it in her coat pocket. "I'm sure we can figure this out."

      "Shadow, we both know we're just substitutes for each other." She lies to herself, but not him. "Sally, I know it was in the heat of the moment during sex, but you took a chance when you said you loved me. I know, me not saying anything, really messed with us." He tells her empathetically. "Thats not it.!"
      Sally sniffles, "Although, believe me, it's amazing being with you. You made me, feel things I've never felt before, but I know your heart isn't fully in it... I also know your not one to walk away from something, or especially someone. So let me be the one to end this." She picks up her suitcase.
       Shadow clenches his fist, his chest hurting. "But, Sally, I love you, too." Sally makes a sad chuckle, "That's just it, Shadow. You love me, but your not IN Love with me.... And no matter that place already has someone in it, that we both know who she is." Her words hit him like a cannonball. 

      "Where will you going then?" The dark hedgehog asks, defeated.
      "My brother, the crown prince, thinks he found a cure, if not a treatment, for our mothers illness. So, I'm going to the Oriental region, to look into it more... Shadow, you reunited me with my family and friends, for that you'll always have a special place in my heart." Sally walks closer to, Shadow. "It may be odd, but believe me when I tell you, I'm really rooting for you."
        Shadow takes a long breath... "Okay. Thank you. Do you want me to drop you off at the airport?"
      "Elias, is taking me. Wants to see his little sister off." Sally smiles at, Shadow, just before she left his residence she planted a kiss on his cheek. He closes the door behind her and sits down. His head now full of things to think about...

Authors note: I needed to end Shadally's relationship, but I didn't want either of them to be the bad guy in it.
 (In the comics Sally's mother is sick because she was in cryosleep incorrectly for years.)
