I knew that Grayson was awake by the muffled shouts through the walls. And the replying voice was no doubt Ares. Rolling my eyes, I fling out my awareness toward Gray, telling her how to get to me and away from him.

The two of them were left alone together and it resulted in a shouting match. Sounds about right.

We all knew that we had things to talk about.

It didn't take a genius to figure out why Gray had hidden all these years. Pack wolves had basically committed genocide against her race. Placing her in this house with us basically put her in the lion's den.

I knew that Ares was doing what he always did. He was trying to protect the people he loved. And Gray wasn't having a single second of it. I chuckled thinking about it.

I close the sketchbook on my lap, Grayson's smiling face disappearing from my sight.

We did plan on having Gray staying with us, but we weren't going to force her into it. The way this girl had survived for the past years was by listening to her instincts. And the big bad Alpha shouting at her first thing after she woke up was not going to make this any easier.

Gray reached out to me, surprising the hell out of me as she linked with me. "Hey." I say, a little startled. I didn't think she would want to link with any of us. How she so willingly and easily linked with me made a warm fuzzy feeling in my chest appear. She had been mindlinking us, but the actual link, only Ares and I had experienced it with her. And it didn't sound like they were linked right now. Another chuckle rose in me.

Her thoughts and feelings crashed into me. Something Ares had said left her feeling exposed and vulnerable.

My smile was wiped clean off my face.

"Sweatpants are in the top drawer, Finn's should be to your left. Ares' to your right."

She mentally scoffed and went to the left.

"Baby, I didn't mean-" Ares was saying.

With only a door separating us now, I could hear them clearly with my wolf hearing.

"Don't." Grayson snapped. Her voice was filled with anger and sadness.

Something was wrong. Ares had said something that really hurt her.

A flash of black-blue hair and a cruel smile flashed in Grayson's memory.

Unbearable heat, and an unsatiable ache between her legs. "Look at you, Gracie. Spread open and begging for me."

I sat up straighter on the bed, recognizing Larkin immediately.

Holy fucking hell. Had that been one of her heats? My fangs pricked my gums. He had taken full advantage of her helplessness in that situation. And praised her for it.

"Gray, please, listen-"

"No."

The door to my room opens and Grayson steps through, her head hanging slightly with her hair blocking my view of her face.

When Ares follows right after her, I stand up from the bed and step toward them, gently moving Grayson behind my back as I stared at my friend. "I think you should leave."

Ares' panicked eyes meet mine and then away from my face as he tried to get around me. "Gray, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I don't know why I did. I don't think that. I just didn't want you to leave and I was panicking. I'm sorry."

I could feel Grayson's need to get him out as soon as possible. I grab Ares' shoulders and push him toward the door. "Ares, you need to leave." I say lowly.
