"What do you mean? Emergency meeting?" I ask Ryker in disbelief.

Ryker nodded once. "They're at the main estate in Ashwinter."

"Ashwinter?" I ask.

"The main estate is more formally known as the Ashwinter estate, or the Ashwinter territory. It's a 13-hour drive from here." Ryker explains. "The Ashwinter family was one of the founding families of The Society. Their family holds the most Elder chairs."

I furrow my eyebrows at him. "So they basically call the shots."

Ryker frowns. "It's supposed to be a circle decision, but when most of the circle plays for the same team... yeah. The Ashwinters are powerful. Politically and physically."

I bite my lip. "Who was the person Finn ran into?"

Ryker narrowed his eyes at me. "What?"

"I felt his panic. I know the person he ran into has hurt him in the past. I could gather that much." I pause. "Who is it?"

"I can't tell you that." Ryker says with a frown. "As I said earlier, when Finn gets back, he'll want to explain more to you. I can feel as much through the bond."

I scowl at him.

Ryker scowls back.

"Is Finn okay?" I try instead. He said he couldn't tell me, which was fine. But I was still worried about Finn. He had made me worry in the last day that he hated me, sure, but that didn't take away from the fact that he was hurting.

Ryker's gaze softened. "I can tell that he's uneasy, but he will be okay."

I chewed on my bottom lip. "When is this emergency meeting? Did it already happen?"

Ryker grins. "It's happening right now as we speak."

I release my lip in shock. "You mean... when we were..."

Ryker nods with a slight chuckle. "Yeah. They couldn't pick up much through the bond being closed off, but they're probably all sitting there with hard-ons."

I gape at him. "How is that funny?" I laughed.

He stands from the bed, holding out a hand to help me up. "I think it's rightful payback for Ares, anyway. He probably fumbled for words during his report."

The smile on my face fades a little and I take his hand. There was still fresh hurt in my chest. Larkin had put the hurt there, but Ares had thrown salt in my wounds. My bottom lip trembled. Maybe Ares had a point in saying all of that. Maybe Ryker was wrong.

"Hey." Ryker snapped.

I raised my head to meet his gaze.

His brown eyes swam with so much resolve as he looked down at me. "Don't you fucking dare think that what we just did was anything else than what it was. You wanted it just as much as me. You have a right to explore my body as I have a right to explore yours. You are mine. I am yours. That's how this works."

Ryker's eyes jump in between mine.

"Ares was right when he told you that we have a lot to teach you. And that is a part of it." Ryker says. "That night? In the bath? That was Ares speaking from his heart." Tears press against the back of my eyes. "Last night? That was him talking out of his ass." Ryker shrugs nonchalantly, but his gaze kept that steely resolve and slight fury. "He has the tendency to do that from time to time. You just need to kick his ass into gear."

I shake my head. "I don't know. I don't know anything."

Ryker sweeps his hands into my hair. "That's alright. We'll figure it out."
