I couldn't help but bounce my knee as Ares drove down the dirt driveway, the enormous and elegant mansion coming into view.

The Society switched up its meeting places every now and then. But this was the main estate. This was where the Elder's lived and ruled.

Towering white stucco walls towered above the manicured lawn, not a single leaf out of place. Just for the fucking fun of it, I flicked out a finger and encouraged a vine to creep up the exterior wall of the building. But it didn't make me smile like it normally would.

Leaving Grayson back in Moonstone was hard. For all three of us. Finn hadn't said a word for the whole half-a-day drive. Ares sat stiffly as he drove, a brushed off all my attempts to give him a break from behind the wheel. And I had looked over at Ryker's empty seat enough times that I wondered why I kept looking.

It wasn't just because he was the one with Grayson, but because I missed his presence. We had always faced The Soceity together. As a pack. Now it just felt weird with him missing and wierder still with Grayson away from us too.

Naturally, we had all dressed up a bit to be in the presence of The Society and the Elders. We could hardly show up in sweats, already disgraced as we were.

"Shit." Finn curses as Ares parks the Jeep.

I look out the window to follow his gaze. My eyes land on a head of vibrant crimson hair, dark roots making the dye job glow. The smirk that spreads across my face is more of a grimace. "Thing 1."

Ares points as a figure walks out from behind a car to join him. Soft pink hair settles around an angled but soft face, the shorter pieces at the bottom of his head were left their naturally dark color. "Thing 2." Ares says distastefully.

"The Ashwinter twins." Finn says as he unbuckled himself. "Fucking pricks."

We had longstanding beef with the two of them. They grew up in Moonstone with us, but they were 2 years older. While the four of us had been disgraced and basically disowned by our families, the two of them had never had it hard.

They were basically princes in The Society. And ever since we had been selected to lead Moonstone, their former home, they had been outright hostile toward us.

While they hadn't been titled lead pack of a territory, they were the Elder's lap dogs. All of The Society's dirty work, you better believe these two were at the center of it.

At first glance, their hair dye and pretty faces made them seem almost innocent. Then you took in their tattoos, piercings, and murderous intent in their eyes. They were a pair of manipulative, bloodthirsty vipers.

We amble out of the Jeep, and I tug unconformably on the cuffs of my jacket. I had pulled my hair back in a short ponytail, a few curly pieces had been too short and fell around my face. I blew one strand out of the way only to have it fall back. Finn gave me a knowing look before he gestures toward the building.

The Ashwinter twins had noticed our arrival, and sure enough were waiting for us a few yards from the front door, looking back at us with matching expressions of revulsion.

Ares chuffed, a slight sound of challenge. "Let's get this over with."

The twins walked to meet us, and we stopped within a couple of feet of each other. Sol, the obnoxious crimson-headed prick sneered at us. "You're down one."

Ares narrowed his eyes at him. "I don't see how that is any of your business."

The soft pink twin with a much too pretty face studied him. "Have there been any problems in Moonstone?" Kai asks.
