With a little convincing, I managed to persuade Mercer to take a quick shower before we left. On the way to where Mercer practices, I got to know a little bit about Kelvin.

He was a nice guy who had goals. One day, he wanted to make it to the NFL, and by the way he was talking, it was going to be a bigger challenge than I thought Mercer was going to have to face as well.

I mean, when I asked Mercer about where he saw himself with football, he said the NFL. Mercer has the resources to make it happen with the snap of his finger, but he wanted nothing handed to him. Mercer wanted to be in the NFL because he earned his spot.

I have no doubts that Mercer is capable of accomplishing his objectives and deserving of everything that comes his way.

And by the way I was staring intensely from the glass wall into the meeting room, I could tell just how much Mercer was invested in his future in terms of football.

The smile that spreads across my face is hard to hide as I watch him listen intently to his coaches and a few of his teammates.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed, and I pulled it from my back pocket. With a sigh, I briefly looked up towards Mercer and his team before I turned on my heels in the direction of the double doors leading out of the Athletic department.

The moment I was at a good distance, I hesitantly answered the phone and held it to my ear.

"Hi Mom." I forced a settled tone.

"Gen," My mother overexaggerates. "I've been trying to call you. Is everything okay?"

"Everything is just fine, mom."

A long pause erupts before she speaks again. This time, her tone has changed to one of worry.

"Are you sure, sweetie? Your father called me, and he's informed me that a big purchase was made to your account about two days ago."

My eyes close tightly together as the reminder I set to get my dad's name from over my account. I totally forgot that he could see how much I have in the bank.

"I wasn't aware that he was constantly checking up on my spending." I murmur, leaning up against the nearest wall. "What I do with my money is my concern, mom."

There's another pause.

Rubbing at my temple, I sigh and shake my head. "I wanted to see Mercer."

"What?" I cringe at the unsettling tone in my mother's screech. "Are you telling me that you are not currently present at your campus?"

"Yes," I say quickly. "And before you chastise me, I have everything settled in a few days and should make it back before my first match."

"Oh dear..." My mother trails off, sounding stressed. "You should be in school, Gen. Not getting distracted. Boys can come later."
