Mercer returned by my side not to long ago and I briefly caught him up on London leaving and Cody following after her. That was twenty minutes ago.

"You don't have to worry about, Cody." Kelvin tells me, leaning further back into the couch that he occupied across from us. "He'll make sure your friend is safe."

I would have left if it weren't for the text and the image London sent me a mere two minutes ago that she was back at Mercer's place and that she was alone and safe. It gave me relief and I could finally relax but I still couldn't get rid of the nagging feeling that something was wrong.

"Hi guys." I instantly stiffened on Mercer's lap at the sight of Harlow and the old roommate, who always looked angry. Lance was his name. "Can we join?"

Neither waited for a response as they took a seat on the other couch.

"Enjoying the party so far?" Harlow's eyes fall on Mercer, awaiting his answer.

"It's alright," Mercer responds, rubbing up the side of my hip.

Harlow watches the act and it irritates me. As if finally noticing my presence, she sent me a smile that was unreal.

"It's nice to see you again, um..."

"Genevieve." Mercer speaks, hinting at the question in his tone.

"Right," she smiles apologetically, false. "Sorry, Genevieve."

"It's alright," I shrug. "To be honest, I don't remember you. In actuality, if we had ever had a formal introduction, I would recall it."

From the side, I could hear Kelvin snicker.

A light squeeze on my hip was a clear indication from Mercer to be nice.

"Harlow." She stares at me for a beat, then looks over at Mercer. "So, are you playing with the rest of us? The fright chase starts at thirty."

"Fright chase?" I frowned.

"It's where you have a group of people that split in pairs." Lance begins, the bordeam clear in his tone. "Those pairs have to decide who will be chased and who will be the tracker. Bruins tradition of a true Halloween party."

Mercer stays silent, the irritation rubbing off of him. It was not hard to figure out that he strongly disliked Lance and hated his presence even more. Mercer throws his head back, almost taking the rest of his drink with him. The moment he takes it away from his mouth, I grab it and drink the rest.

I could feel eyes burning the side of my face. Mercer was staring at me, his brows furrowed in confusion for a brief moment.

"Sounds interesting," I say. "It sounds like something similar we did back in high school, right, Mercer?"

"Oh yes," Harlow pipes. "I remember you telling me that the Durant Lions had a ball."

I turned to look at Mercer, waiting for his response. What else has he been talking to her about?
