"He's a pain in the ass!" London grumbles as she uses the inside of her foot to redirect the ball over to me. "It's one game."

"It's the beginning of the season, London." I say, kicking the ball right back to her.

Losing a game at the beginning of the season was never good but there is always room for improvement.

Coach Roberts has been a pain in the ass, as London puts it. Perhaps the beginning of it was our lengthy conversation regarding my brief trip to UCLA to visit my boyfriend. I don't know but I do know that ever since we lost the game, Coach has been coming down hard on us in terms of practice; he was more strict.

"Again, Ashley!" he shouts from across the field, causing London and I to pause.

From the corner of my eye, I saw London shaking her head before focusing on our drills.

"So, how was your visit?" she questions as soon as I pass the ball.

By the time my flight landed, London was handling personal issues that concerned her daughter, her boyfriend, who was also the father of her child, and her father.

"It was nice," I say, not fully being honest but it's like she already knew that.

"What really happened?" she grunts, kicking the ball back my way.

"You could say I met his roommates and a new friend of his."

"Friend?" One of her brows lifted. "Does this friend happen to be female?"

"Yeah." I sigh.

Perhaps I'm just overthinking it. I mean, guys had friends that are girls all the time but I can't help but feel like there was something to her. Something that made me question her intentions.

The moment she barged into the apartment that belonged to Mercer and his roommates, demanding to know where he was, it set an alarm in my head.

I had a gut feeling that she could not be trusted.

"I know guys have girls as friends but it's something about her that makes me question her."

"Hmm," London scratches her scalp before moving a loose orange strand behind her ear.

"I mean, I could just be overthinking-"

"No." London interrupts me, a roughness to her tone. "Don't even think like that. Sometimes a woman's thoughts can lead to something that is possibly true."

Now that I say it out loud, I don't really think that the girl was Mercer's friend. I mean not that Mercer would ever cheat on me but it's her that I don't trust him around.

Would he even listen if I told him this? What am I saying, of course, he would?

Ugh, I got to stop letting this get to me. I trust Mercer and I know he can make the right choices.
