Benevolent, merciful, and even a bit naïve. But with enough strength to be compassionate. That was how Rimuru Tempest was seen by the world.
When historians studied his past deeds, even if they found evil ones, those actions would always be a consequence. Demon lord Rimuru never started an attack of his own volition. Moreover, the monsters' lord would destroy his enemies on the spot, not engaging in well deserved cruelty.
While having overwhelming power and advanced technologie, the demon lord limited his domain to the forest. While his influence was great, he respected the others' free will, except those who brought harm to his home.
That was what was known to the world. Which is why everyone agreed. To never mess with the Jura Tempest Federation. To never harm those under the demon lord.
At least, the part of Rimuru always acting as a consequence turned out to be true. If Frank had never stepped on the tiger's tail, he wouldn't be in this situation. But what about the demon lord's merciful heart? One which rumored, accepted and protected even former enemies? One which destroyed, but never tortured the hundreds of thousands of enemies who stood against the monsters?
Frank was desperate. It was the greatest mistake of his life. If time could be turned back, he would never, never make the same mistake.
As someone who navigated through the underworld, he was well versed in official and unofficial information. About the rumors and the stories that transversed in the world. For them were necessary for his survival.
Frank messed up pretty bad.
The job was dangerous. Not because of the difficulty of execution, but because of the consequences of getting caught. But hell, in this line of work, you would never survive if you feared what would happen after getting caught. You work under the premise that you will never get caught.
A rich noble fell in love... it would have been good had it been something like that.
That man lusted for some cute girls. Young girls who weren't even adults. Students of the Freedom Academy at Ingrassia.
Frank's team accepted the noble's demand. The pay was good and no girl had an influential power. They were all commoners without any powerful backups. Maybe the monster girls would pose a problem, as they were bound to be stronger than a human, but they were average citizens and not warriors.
Many others would have feared touching a monster. They all feared the demon lord's wrath. But they weren't even in the monster country, so it would be fine.
It wasn't his first time kidnapping innocent people for dubious purposes. Not that he cared. He, who was born without anything, had no other way to survive than targeting the ones who lived under the light.
Then, the deed happened.
He baited the five girls with a discount ticket. When they went to the deserted alley, he deployed the previously prepared barrier. Frank and his friends easily subdued the three humans and two monsters. One human girl got away, but nothing that could be done. Even if she told the authorities, he and his companions would disappear in the shadows, while the noble would erase the existence of the girls.
The girls were delivered early the next day. The noble was happy at the girls' sight. The poor girls were trembling as the noble had that gross smile on him. Frank himself was disgusted, but nothing that could be done. He took his money and was about to leave with his team.
Frank turned back to look at their victims one last time. They stopped on their tracks. There was someone else standing there. A humanoid, with long blue-silverish hair.
