Arven was getting the sandwiches prepared on the picnic table, and I was sitting on the floor, and Azalea sat by my side. She was snoozing, with her head resting on my head.

Arven turned over to me, two plates in his hands. "Guess what I finished? The spiciest sandwich you'll ever eat!"

I reached up for the plate. "I'm kiiinda stuck here. Moving a sleeping Dragonite is not ok." I said sheepishly. "Plus, she's adorable."

Arven rolled his eyes, but was smiling. "Ah, I completely understand. This sandwich is just for you, though, not Azalea-"

Right as he finished his sentence, Azalea perked up. She yawned, and her eyes were wide. Arven narrowed his eyes. "Not for you." he skillfully evaded Azalea's mouth and handed me my sandwich.

Azalea huffed, sticking her tongue out at Arven.

Then, Miraidon burst out of its Pokeball, right where Arven had left its sandwich. "Hey- hey, hey! Back away from the-!" he tried to swat it away, but it already snatched the sandwich, gulping it down in one bite.

Arven scowled at Miraidon, but plopped down in front of me with his sandwich. "Ah, you were gonna give it the sandwich anyways, huh?"

He sighed, but didn't say anything. He took a bite of his sandwich, and his eyes shot open. "Ho-ho-hooooooot..!!!"

I took a bite of my sandwich as well.

The heat washed over me after a moment, but it wasn't totally unbearable. "Arven, I dunno what you're talking about- my mamá makes even hotter food."

Arven was panting at this point, waving air into his face. "I haven't eaten any of your mom's food before!"

I laughed, eating the rest of my sandwich. "This is probably one of your best sandwiches, Arven!"

Arven looked like he was ready to pass out, but he nodded and smiled weakly. "Uhuh!" he took out Mabosstiff's Pokeball and sent Mabosstiff out.

Mabosstiff still lay on the ground, unmoving except for the rise and fall of his breathing. "You sure this sandwich won't be too spicy for Mabosstiff?" I asked.

Arven nodded. "Mabosstiff always loved spicy foods. They were his favorite to eat.." Arven broke the sandwich into smaller pieces and fed it to Mabosstiff.

A few moments after Mabosstiff finished eating, Arven waited patiently. When nothing happened, he stood up. He walked over to me and sat down. Then, he leaned into me and started sobbing.

"This was my last shot.. If this didn't- he's.. Mabosstiff's gone, Z..!" He hugged me and cried.

I comforted him, but noticed a movement a few paces in front of me. Mabosstiff was struggling to his paws, and turned it face us. Arven didn't notice, so I poked his side. "You might wanna turn around?"

"Turn around and see what? Mabosstiff's-" Arven pushed himself off me to presumably yell at me, but he noticed Mabosstiff. Alive and well.

Tears flooded Arven's eyes, and he stumbled over to Mabosstiff. "B-bud!" he cried, smooshing Mabosstiff's face. "You're.. You're alive!"

They sat there for a good moment, a boy and his dog. After a while, he stood up and wiped his face with his sleeve. "Z.. you have no idea what it means to me that you helped me. I-"

I smiled, my own eyes teary. "I know how much Pokemon can mean to someone. Especially with you and Mabosstiff."

Arven smiled broadly, and nodded. "Yeah. You and Mabosstiff both mean.. So much to me."

I opened my mouth to reply, but I couldn't respond. I just nodded, feeling too overwhelmed with emotion. "..Let's head out." I squeaked.

Arven nodded. "Yeah. Let's go." he walked towards me and slung his arm around me. "We can finally relax without having to hunt down another Titan!"

I laughed, leaning into Arven. "Yeah. Hey, we should celebrate with a... a... a picnic! A big one, with your sandwiches! And- And my Galarian curry!"

Arven smiled. "You know, I'll never understand why your signature dish is Galarian. You're from Kalos, right?"

"I've spent lots of time in Galar."

We made our way back to Uva on Miraidon's back. Even though Arven seemed uncomfortable with being so close to Miraidon, we still managed to have a fun time back. Even though we were so at ease, something still gnawed at me. Something big was on the horizon, but I just could put my finger on what it might be.
