A Strange Amount Of Red

it was morning, but a calm one, there weren't any attacks or anything. I yawned and stretched as i looked around my room, i threw on the only thing i wear (my scarf), as well as my shoes. I was greeted by Rouge and Knuckles in the main office, they were chatting about work stuff- boring..

"Hey guys! a quiet day, huh?" I sat down in my open seat around the table. "Yeah, we'll take this day as a well deserved break." Rouge replied as she yawned back into her seat. "i've already done my morning exercises, i'll have to train the troops later, but until then i guess we all don't have anything to do as of now."

I leaned back into the chair with my hands behind my head, keeping my legs crossed onto the table. "Well then-" I jumped out of my chair excitedly, "I'm going for a run!" i would proceed to dash out the office.

I found myself on my favorite building, it has some more welcoming lights and a nice flat area where the wind was enough to send a small breeze through my quills and no robots really patroled this area, i always dream of showing Amy this place someday, i often imagine us still in green hill, sitting on the edge of a hill, looking down at the sunset as animals below us enjoy themselves. When we still had these moments, we'd often share a chilli dog picnic as we talked about how we felt. i would often jokingly say shes my "therapist", i mean she gave the most theraputic advice you could ask for.

My ear twitched as i got knocked out of my day dream. "Who's there?" i hurridly got into a defensive pose incase of an attack, there was some strange rustling behind the entrance to this roof, i didn't dare move forward as i'd be in danger of being pulled off the building if i went over there.

"Hey calm your nerves, i'm no robot!" i could recognise that accent from anywhere.

"Oh man, you scared me knucks! gotta stop doing that, heh." Knuckles slowly emerged from the concrete wall. "I knew i'd find you here." He walked towards me holding a plastic bag of sorts, as he got closer i sniffed, and then when i smelled that sweet-sweet chili dog aroma.  "Aw Knucks, you didn't have too, ahh~, your chili dog recipes are too good for this world!" i felt myseld drool as he chuckled towards me. "Here you hungry dog-" He tossed the bag towards me.

we both sat down again as i munched on chili dogs. "Up here again, huh?" "Yeah..it's a nice place for when i want to calm my mind." knucks looked over at me, "Doesn't look alot like running to me." i snorted at his teasing. "It's not like theres much place to run around here, they should atleast build a 400 meter athlete track here, or a football stadium." I downed the last chili dog as i looked over at knucks.

He was staring at the sky, a few hints of stars were still visible through the heavy pollution. Knuckles and i were always astronomy buds, especially at night time where the most stars are visible. At green hill, we would always stargaze and chat like best buds, talking about what shapes the stars look like, and giving them silly names along with the planets.

"Hey Sonic, it's chunkster-" He couldn't help but laugh, i named that one a long time ago. It was Betelguese. "Mhm, can you find engagement ring?" which Knucks named, it was Saturn, i think you know why it's "engagement ring".

Knucks closed his eyes, it looked like he was lost in thought, but to me, he looked majestic. The breeze carefully waved his quills, as he enjoyed the best air you can get in this city. He really is beautiful, the brightest red Echidna you could ever know, he really was beautiful, no matter if i was looking at him in green hill or new yoke. He opened his eyes, i felt my face flush pink as i saw his amethyst eyes trail to the ground. "Hey Sonic.." He looked towards me, but his pupils didn't focus on me at all. "Mhm?" I gulped slighty as i saw him flush. "I've been meaning to tell you something for a while." i noticed his hand inch closer to mine, my thoughts were racing.

OMG IS HE GONNA CONFESS? nonono- that can't be possible, i don't know if hes gay or not! hes probably gonna mention a mission hes been stalling for a while...but what if he IS going to ask me out? omg i'm sweating just thinking about it!

"I've been feeling something for a while, i feel weird about it..and i think it has to do with you." His blush turned more noticable as he looked away from me in embarrasment, i could barely hold my own embarassment in either, i kept looking at his hand and lips, like a TOTAL IDIOT! i bet i looked like a red echinda myself by how much i was blushing.

"Hey Knucks, don't be afraid to tell me, i won't judge no matter what it is." I gulped even harder than earlier as he slowly turned towards me with petty eyes.

"Sonic..i..."
