34. Not again

"So you're telling me, that the whole case with Ultron was NOT enough proof to show that the technology can be hazardous? Tony?" Steve asked as he stared at Tony sternly, besides whom was yn and Bruce. "And you Bruce? And Yn?"

"In my defence." Yn stepped forwards and said. "UIL was not designed to be anything like Ultron. The entire system was crafted upon the basis of protection of mankind without synthetic objects of free minds. We hadn't fed it any information, so it is not currently trying to wipe out any of us. Perhaps it's current goal is to explore humanity whilst acting on its protocols to protect."

"In that sense isn't it a good thing that it escaped?" Tony asked, feeling a little cheered up as he walked towards yn. "It can find out what humans are like by itself instead of like Ultron. It might even develop feelings."

"Yeah but thats thé thing Tony." Bruce replied quietly as he pushed his glasses up slightly. "People aren't that nice. What if he gets the wrong ideas? What if he-"

"But he won't!" Tony replied as his thoughts began coming together. "Because his protocols are to protect and not destroy. His feelings, if he were to develop any, would also be a barrier from him destroying everyone." He looked around the room to see that no one was concurring, so he turned to his daughter. "You get me right yn?"

"Thé only problem is though, we didn't write in what protection really is." Yn replied, suddenly feeling a little faint at what they could have potentially created.

"No but we did!" Tony exclaimed, throwing his hands into the air. "Protection! Protecting people from danger!"

"Exactly dad." Yn replied, feeling really uneasy and agitated. "What is danger?"

"Excuse me Yn?"

"Danger. Anything can be danger. Is it danger for a little boy to bump his head on the table? Or could it be danger to even let a dog close to a human in case it bites?" Yn explained carefully, watching as everyone began understanding what she was saying. Then she continued. "Anything can be danger. But there's no way to eradicate all dangerous beings. But even if, hypothetically speaking, they could eliminate all dangers, what is the final, more dangerous being there is?"

"Humans." Steve answered solemnly, suddenly feeling like this could be a terrible threat. "The greatest, most dangerous thing that can cause danger to humans is other humans."

Tony thought for a second before stepping in this time. "But the protocols, protect humans. You can't protect if you kill them."

"You can imprison them away from each other, isolated from everyone and everything else into a soft room where there is no way of harm. Is that protection?" Yn explained, her words and examples darkening the minds of everyone around. "You can drug them all and force them into a deep slumber and keep them a constant supply of oxygen, nutrients, supplies. Is that protection?"

There was a deep silence that rang across the room, not a single person in the room is not understanding anymore. This could be an even greater threat than Ultron. It's primary goal is to 'protect', but there was no definition of protection nor danger written to him. His protocols was not yet complete, and now he has to learn humanity by ML and not by written protocols, therefore amplifying any possibilities of malicious ideas learnt. And finally, it was completely and entirely waterproof. It can easily hide underwater where the avengers cannot, as it's waterproof coating was entirely complete.

"Well," Bucky broke the silence, trying to be as positive as he could. "at least he's not connected to the interface like Ultron. Right?"

"He's a machine Manchurian Candidate." Tony pointed out. "He can learn, and when he learns to self teach itself and develop opinions and will, he becomes an artificial intelligence. Oh fuck what have we done..."

Yn turned and noticed that Tony had fallen back into a loop of self doubt and guilt, with a sigh she walked over and gave him a brief hug. "We'll fix this, even if it's the last thing we do."

"Yn is there any ways to track it?" Steve asked, trying to focus on the mission and not the jealousy he's feeling inside him that he hadn't yet received a hug from the girl yet.

"I can try, we did build a tracker into it." Yn replied after a second of thinking. Then she immediately turned and looked at Bruce. "Bruce we have to destroy the other suits. We don't need a repeat of Ultron, one is enough for us to deal with."

"On it." Bruce replied and immediately headed out.

Yn turned on her heels and began walking out of the door, until she was grabbed on the arm and spun around by the captain himself. "Abandon your attempts if things go badly, prioritise your safety first."

Yn turned around and smiled. "That doesn't sound like the words of the great Captain America."

"He's right doll." Bucky walked up and stood next to Steve.

"You understand yn?" Steve asked again, looking at her in all seriousness.

"Relax big guy." Yn replied, then mentally cursed herself for sounding so like Natasha. "I'll be fine. You two don't get too worked up, be ready for a fight though."

"Wait yn I'll come with you." Tony yelled as he made his way next to yn, walking side by side with her. "Figured I'd be more helpful than the fossils. Plus I'll send a notification to our little splatasha."

"What should we do?" Wanda asked, gesturing towards herself, Vision, Steve, Bucky and Sam.

"Get ready for a fight like yn said." Tony replied, starting to walk backwards to be by yn's side whilst speaking to the avengers. "Oh, I will need one of you to notify Thor and Loki (yes he is alive because he cannot die I refuse 🥲), they're currently in 'the new asgard' rebuilding a home. Oh also, Cap you should formulate a plan seeing that you're so good at doing that. Barnes you join him. Keep yourselves occupied on the work and not my daughter."

With that, Tony left after giving Steve and Bucky a meaningful look. The other avengers looked at each other and pursed their lips, feeling like it would be highly unprofessional of them to laugh especially given it's such a serious situation. Steve and Bucky sighed and turned around, looking at the other avengers.

"Sam, I'm gonna ask you to fly to The New Asgard and grab Thor and Loki." Steve commanded, his captain self taking control.

"You got it, Cap."

"Vision I want you to search through the interface constantly to make sure this UIL thing doesn't connect."

"Yes Captain."

"Wanda, would you be able to find Clint and- actually never mind. He's got a family it's too much to risk. Can you get Doctor Strange- nevemind he only really deals with Thanos and reality levelled threats he'll come when he comes." Steve thought for a second more, but ran out of ideas of anything he'd need Wanda to do. So he chose a safer approach. "You me and Buck stay around the compound to ensure the robot doesn't attack this base."

Wanda gulped and nodded her head. This is great, she's going to be surrounded by love sick super soldiers.

Please tell me if something is making no sense. Sometimes it makes sense in my brain but when I write it it all suddenly become different 🙃 I'd be happy to explain or clarify anything if something makes no sense.

Also, I have to say, I've put off Eternals for such a long time because I just felt like I didn't want to watch it before, main,y because it's got nothing to do with the avengers. But I watched it today and it was actually pretty good! Ikaris looks so much like Bucky that I spent the entire film convincing myself that Bucky doesn't shoot lasers out of his eyes. His resemblance to Bucky also made the beach scene of him and Sersi very....different. Those who watched will understand 🥲

Also, I'm so excited for the new Ant-Man! Might be going to see it on Saturday, if I do, I'm going to be the happiest myself ever 😭 😭
