(Y/n's POV)

For the next few weeks, he works me tirelessly, runs me into the ground. I say weeks, I don't ever actually know what time it is, so I just assume that every time he lets me rest is the end of a day.

He makes me fix machine after machine. God knows how he got hold of so many Leviathans, but he's definitely got enough here that he could take down New York for good if he really wanted to. There's also odd bits and bobs here and there, machines and weapons and fuck knows what else.

Though it seems today he has something different in mind.

Normally, I'm taken to the giant room with all the equipment and sciencey shit, it looks like a giant lab, but today it's a much smaller room. Like an interrogation room in a police station.

Doctor List is sat on one side of the table, and there's an empty chair on the other side, to which he gestures for me to sit.

There's no shackles, no chin strap.... Nothing.

"What's going on?"

"Please y/n, take a seat. I'd like to try something with you today."

I slowly sit down in the chair, expecting some sort of restraint to be sprung on me, but nothing happens.

It's just a chair.

"What's going on?" I ask again.

"Now, you may or may not remember what we did the last time you were here."

"I don't think I'm ever gonna forget it, do you?"

"Perhaps not. But I'll jog your memory anyway. Your power and control of electricity is wonderful, but there was another. We spent a little time training you with your telepathy."

"I think training is putting it lightly. I seem to remember you flooding my body with thousands of volts of electricity, then saying 'tell me what I'm thinking'."

"And here I thought you'd forgotten all the fun we had."

"Ha, in my dreams. Sorry, my nightmares."

He clasps his hands together on top of the table, "Shall we get started on our practice today?"

"How's this gonna work? You gonna ask me to read your mind every five seconds?"

"Not exactly. I'd like to try something a little more advanced. I would like us to have a conversation, but up here," he says and taps the side of his head.

"You.... What?"

"I want you to project yourself into my mind and communicate with me like that."

"And how exactly do you expect me to do that?"

"You're a bright girl, I'm sure you can figure it out."

If I ever had a chance to go for him, it's now. It's literally the perfect opportunity.

Perhaps too perfect.

But I have to try.

"Alright, let me.... Let me just think for a minute."

I keep my hands held under the table, and make a show of closing my eyes to seem focused on the telepathy, but I instead slowly channel my electricity up through my legs, through my body and down my arms to my hands. I concentrate it, make it as strong as I possibly can, then I lurch across the table and grab onto his shoulders.

I don't know the exact voltage that I carry in me, but if this doesn't put him down then I don't know what the fuck will.

He convulses under my hands, slowly slipping from his chair down to the floor, and I hold on for just a few more moments before I make a run for it.

I slip out the door and there's the guard who's waiting to take me back to my cell, and I quickly put him on the ground too.

As long as I can find a place to hide, I can figure out a plan to get me out of here.

Why are the hallways so empty? Is this normal? Maybe I'm always too busy with 'training' or being locked away to notice.

I turn at all these different corners, I could be going on circles and I'd have no idea, but then I find a staircase.

This base is underground. The only thing up is the surface.

This should be the way out, but it seems to easy.

To obvious.

There may as well have been neon signs pointing this way.

But if I turn back now then I'm just going to get locked up. Again.

I can hear an alarm blaring through the halls, and there's only one option left.

Up it is.

Step after step, trying to be as quiet as I can and also as fast as I can.

I'm assuming the alarm is for me, which means they know I'm on the run. Are there cameras in this place? Probably. It'd be stupid for there not to be.

I wonder what's up there?

Maybe it's a trap. Maybe this was the plan all along. Maybe there's someone waiting for me up there. Waiting for me to break through to just send me all the way back down again.

Maybe......

The top of the staircase feels colder than the bottom. I thought hot air was meant to rise, but there's definitely a chill in the air.

There's some sort of door in the ceiling. It has a wheel, so I guess the only thing left to do is turn it.

Round.

Round.

Round.

Endless clockwise turns.

The wheel getting looser and looser.

Then it stops.

It won't turn any more.

I pull on the door, ready for it to open, and the step falls away beneath me and I plummet all the way down to the ground.
