Draupadi set the plate down and bowed to Goddess Durga praying for her loved ones safe return. Her eyes closed in deep concentration, "Oh Goddess," she mumbled, her hands joined, "Keep my husband safe. Bhrata Nakul, Sahadev and Bhrata Bheem are out there on the battle fields, protect their lives. Their family is waiting for their safe return." She bowed her head one last time and walked out of the temple.

In the garden, while she was on the way, she saw Valandhara beside a pond, unusually quiet. Draupadi frowned. Valandhara and being quiet did not fit in the same sentence.

Draupadi walked towards Valandhara and stood beside her. She gently placed her hand on Valandhara's shoulder. Valandhara jerked, hastily wiped her eyes and shot Draupadi a smile.

"Sorry," Valandhara laughed, the traces of tears still visible, "I did not notice you earlier. Do you need something?"

Draupadi narrowed her eyes and raised an eyebrow at her, studying her like a project. Then, finally shook her head, "Seriously?"

Uh oh. Valandhara bit her lip and glanced around nervously, "Yeah."

Draupadi took a step closer and spoke nothing. Just judged her. Valandhara flinched under the weight of her gaze, "Well..-" She started and trailed off as Draupadi just crooked an eyebrow and tilted her head. Her face deadpanned.

"Okay," Valandhara twisted her lips, "I'm spilling the beans, you need not take the 'I am the intimidating Yagyaseni' stance."

Draupadi smiled gleefully and sat down on the grass. Her legs crossed beneath her. "Let's start then."

Valandhara rolled her eyes and sat down beside her, "You're such a manipulator."

"Oh," Draupadi shrugged, rather proud of it. She made herself comfortable before answering, "Just one of my many talents. Spill."

Suddenly, the air shifted. Valandhara's happy stance evaporated. Draupadi's eyebrows frowned in concentration. She placed a comforting hand over Valandhara's, "Hey," She gently spoke, "You know you can always share it with me."

Valandhara sniffed. Her eyes lowered as she started, "The last time Arya went to a battle, he brought his first wife a competitor," she said referring to herself. Draupadi knew that. Bheem had won Valandhara as a result of his victory in a war.

Valandhara looked up at her with those teary eyes," I am afraid, I might be the one to have a co-wife this time."

Draupadi's eyes widened as suddenly everything came crashing down to her. She blinked. She blinked again to clear her thoughts. Bheem had already married twice, he had a little chance to get married again. B-But what about Arjun?
He was younger, smarter, more handsome and the heartthrob of many maidens of Aryavrat. What if someone choose him. Maybe just for an alliance, but she would still be his lawfully wedded wife.

Her heart would break. Just imagining something made her heart squeeze painfully in her chest. She would probably lose her mind.

If he wins a battle and someone gifts their daughter as a prize, it would cost her a lot. The Price of his victory would be too much for her, probably so much that she would crumble and lose her mind.

Could she afford it?

Draupadi took a deep breath, boxing her emotions, taking her time to hide her feelings. The back of her eyes burnt and throat felt tight. But that was alright. Kshatriya princes always have the liberty of choosing the number of wives they want. The wife is trophy, meant to be the perfect lady to hang on her husband's arm. But Arjun wasn't just any other Kshatriya prince. He was her Sabyasachi. He wouldn't do anything like this to break her heart, or will he?

He wouldn't do anything like this to break her heart, or will he?

Okay, a short & not so sweet chapter does wonders.

Don't mind the poor quality of content, I have my exams going on but all the good ideas strike me during the exam season (but never when I'm writing an essay T_T).

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the chapter. Tell me about your views.

Do you there should be a co-wife taking the actual epic into consideration?

If yes, then which one do you want?

I mean- Subhadra, Chitrangada, Uloopi or all of them?

Or prolly Vishakha XD
