April 13, Wednesday

Waking up, the morning sun is shining through the windows and onto my face. Is that why it is so hot? Once again, I regret sleeping here. Moving under my covers, I try to shield myself from the morning sun. It is too early for school. I shuffle around my covers to look for my phone. Grabbing it, at a glance at the screen, there's a calendar notification about the volleyball prep rally. Prep Rally?

THE PREP RALLY!

I immediately throw my blanket to the side as I try to get up. Unfortunately, my leg gets stuck in the blanket so when I go to stand, I end up falling face-first off my bed.

What a great omen this is...

As my face is planted on the dusty floor, I hear uncontrollable laughter coming from the other side of the room. I don't even have to look up to know who it is.

Even when I know the answer, I lift myself up to see Akira's face erupting with laughter. Really just laughing at someone who could have gotten a concussion? Seemingly out of nowhere, I feel something warm dribble down to my chin. Soft taps fall to the floor. I look down to see scarlet red dots on the floorboards. Akira's laughter almost immediately stops as we both realize what the red is. Akira pulls himself out of bed, only for HIS foot to get caught in the sheets, only he catches himself by planting his hands on the floor rather than landing on his face. Is that what Max Proficiency looks like?

After an awkward breakfast of having to explain to Sojiro why I have a wad of tissue sticking out of my nose, Akira and I headed out towards the train station. Luckily, once we got onto the platform, the train just began to pull in. Just like every morning, the train is packed with people. Akira and I somehow squeezed inside but end up shoulder-to-shoulder close. I'm holding onto the rubber handle on the metal rod above with everything I have. It does not help with how short I am. I look over to Akira and see him holding on without a care in the world. Must be nice being a giant. As if the god that brought me here was really trying to mess with me today, a sudden bump from someone behind me pushes me forward and I land in Akira's arms. The sudden contact makes me freeze, my thoughts trying to catch up. Once I do, I stand upright again. Although, I couldn't bring myself to look Akira in the eye the whole time. I think it is getting warmer than before.

As soon as we settled in homeroom, we were directed into the gym for the prep rally. After a bit of helping to set up the net and other activities, the staff versus the student body began, with Kamoshida being the main runner for the staff. Everyone is cheering for Kamoshida, boys, and girls are lined up around the game. Everything is the same as in the game. Soon, Mishima should be backing up and getting smashed in the face. Ann is seated next to me simply twirling a pigtail around her finger. I guess she doesn't want to stand out. This whole event is a drag. Sighing, Ann turns to me. "Tired, too?"

"Yeah. This is really boring. Nothing but a show to impress." I shrug as I cover my eyes with my palm. For every gamer, it must be a dream come true to be transported into your favorite game, but being here is the last thing I would want to do. Especially, since there is nothing for me to do!

Suddenly a loud smack makes the whole gym go silent, with whispering following soon after.

I look over and see Mishima on the ground, almost knocked out cold. Across the net, Kamoshida is simply staring him down as if he had taken the spotlight that was supposed to be his. Although, soon, Kamoshida walked up and yanked Mishima off the ground, asking for anyone to take him to the infirmary. I take the chance to immediately run up and offer help. Simply so I can leave to be honest. "I'll take him." I reach for Mishima only for Kamoshida to pull him away from me. "Oh, Y/n, you don't need to go out of your way to help him out. Just sit back and let someone more fit do it." Kamoshida says with a smile. "I insist. I don't mind at all taking him to the nurse. It's best I go now, before he can get worse." I swear, just let me use him as an excuse to leave! Kamoshida gives up, surely since there are many eyes on him right now, not without whispering something into Mishima's ear. I take Mishima and lift him onto my back. Kamoshida returns to his game shortly after.

After leaving Mishima at the nurses' office, I made no effort to return to that bogus game. Instead, I headed back to my classroom. Might as well finish some homework that I didn't get the chance to finish in class yesterday.

"What!? Wh-What are you saying? No, of course not!" I looked up to find where this sudden shaky voice came from. At the front of the classroom, are a blond and a dark curly mophead. Ah, it must be about the volleyball victims. Even if they ask around, it's just a waste of time since they're all afraid of Kamoshida and won't say a word. Whatever.

Even if I said something, they wouldn't listen to me.

A tap on my shoulder pops me out of my nap on my desk. "How could you Y/n? You totally left me behind over there! I was all alone in the gym thanks to you!" I look over and see a pouty Ann and a tired Shiho behind her. Did I fall asleep? I didn't realize it. That must be why I am so warm. Shiho makes eye contact with me, and her eyes widen. "Y-Y/n-san! Are you alright!?"

"W-wha?"

Shiho grabs my shoulder and Ann feels up my forehead. "Holy- you're burning up! Have you been heating up here the whole time!?" Ann is frantically touching me everywhere as if I had been run over. "My gosh, you're drenched in sweat! You've got to go home right now!" Shiho and Ann take each of my arms and lift me up. "W-wait a sec girls! I can walk perfectly fine on my own." I rush out of their grasp and run up to the class door. "See? I'm alright." Suddenly, all the back pain and the static from my legs having stayed in one place for so long, take the wheel and I almost fall back, however, I landed on someone. Looking back, I'm met with a pair of familiar lenses looking down at me. Crap. Not again.

"Y/n!" The girls ran over and take me out of the dark-haired boy's arms. "Let us help you, we'll take you home. Just tell me where you live." Ann takes out her phone with her free hand and gives it to me only for it to begin ringing. "They really had to call right now!?" Ann mumbles under her breath while doing everything she can to decline the call with one hand. At the same time, Shiho is frantically nodding and saying sorry to Akira for my falling on him. "I can take her." The cotton-balled boy speaks up in the midst of the panic. The girls take one glance between him and me and immediately refuse. "We couldn't bother you."

"We'll take care of it."

"You don't have to go out of your way."

They kept refusing.

"We live at the same place anyway, so it's really no bother." As soon as the words left Akira's mouth, Ann finally ended that phone call with god-knows-who and both girls crack their heads to look at me, eyes practically asking for an explanation. Gosh, really didn't want anyone to know about this. "I- um- well it's-" Nothing but jumbled-up words come out of my mouth. I'm practically melting down looking for something to say. "Hey-!" Everything zooms out and is replaced with black before I know it.

>>A/N Note<<

This chapter has been brought by courtesy of me getting sick as well.

Did I even have the time to be making this chapter? No

But I still did cause I'm sick and deserve some win.

The chapter is likely bad cause of the high fever me earlier and you can blame that on the fever

Thanks,

Merp
