TEN YEARS LATER.
There was a soft breeze flitting over the bare skin of your arms, through the tiny hairs pricking the flesh. It woke you before Steve did, his soft lips starting to brush lazily over your cheeks before he'd even fully woken yet.
His hand stretches out over your waist, fingers sinking gently as he pulls you closer into his grasp. You go willingly, of course, delighting in the warmth he offered.
Lips meet each other in a slow and languid kiss, lids refusing to open yet still your hearts yearned only for each other. Yours still raced every time he was near, enraptured in his very presence and basking in the glow of him.
Steve breaks from the kiss first and lids reluctantly blink open to look over at him. "Good morning." You mumble quietly, fingertips resting on the apples of his cheeks. His eyes were still closed. You missed them. You wanted him to wake up fully, but luckily... You had perfectly timed help.
"Mommy! Daddy! Wake up." The giggled words prelude a small body jumping onto the pair of you, making Steve groan as buries his face into his plush pillow. "It's too early, Ben. Go back to sleep." He tells your oldest son, who was already busy draping himself over the pair of you, legs on Steve and torso on you. Your fingertips dip into silky brunette locks affectionately, smiling down at your child.
"Is it just you up?" You ask him and he sends a devious grin your way. He doesn't need to say anything else because just at the foot of the bed was your other son, the younger of the two and their little toddler sister. "Morning, guys!" You say excitedly, shuffling over so they could slot into the middle. Ben was eight. The oldest. Then you had Matthew who was six and little Stephanie who was only two. She reaches out for Steve from the foot of the bed, complaining, so Ben huffs and slides free of his spot to lift her up and help her onto the bed.
She babbles wordlessly as she crawls over to Steve instead of you - always a daddy's girl - and he seemingly finds the energy to wake up at that. "There's my princess." He beams, taking her into the crook of his arm where she lays down and snuggles up.
Matthew launches himself at Ben, play wrestling with him and you laugh at them. "Kids, come on. We haven't even had breakfast yet." They look at each other. A mischievous, knowing look, shared only between brothers. Then they jump on you together, making a noise like a scary monster. It makes you laugh and wrap your arms around them both, squeezing them tight and tickling their sides which leaves them a giggling and squealing mess.
"We want chocolate chip pancakes." Matthew whines and, obviously, you were planning to give them just that. Well --- You were planning to nominate someone else to.
"Sure, dad'll make you pancakes." You tell them and they cheer, falling off the bed with all the grace of a newborn zebra and running out of the tiny bedroom.
"Will he now?" Steve grumbles, fingertip dipping into the tiny palm of Stephanie's hand as she tries to grab it. He cocks a brow at you and you offer up a taunting grin, rolling onto your side to face him.
"You're the daddy, aren't you?"
"Hmm..." He smirks knowingly at you, pupils inflating just a fraction in his ever insatiable desire. He hooks a finger at you in gesture to come closer since if he did he'd roll onto the child in his arms. When you do as silently commanded, he tips your chin and slants his lips over your own once more, though hastily and you were left wanting far more. "Damn right I am. Okay, babygirl-" He dips to press a kiss to Stephanie's forehead. "Chill with mommy. I'm gonna go make pancakes."
He slips his arm out from beneath her and stands from the warm confines of your bed, your toddler immediately shuffling over to you and demanding fuss which you give willingly.
