Hermione slowly awoke as the dust particles danced in the early morning light streaming in from her French Windows. She rolled over and remembered that she was still in her grimy clothes from the day before with her bushy hair still plastered to her white face. She rolled out of the double bed and hopped into the shower. Hermione always did like having showers when times were particularly tough. Not only did the shower wash away the grime and horrors of the previous day, but with warm water washing all over her face, she could think clearly for the first time since she broke up with Ron.

Hermione allowed thoughts to come and go one after the other in a continuous stream, like water coming out of the shower. 'Who was the wizard that had a metal wand and could apparate with a police box? What were those robots? Who was the "Master"?' Then of course 'When could she explain things about her break-up with Molly, Ginny and Harry'.
They were all pressing issues that had to be solved that day, unfortunately, Hermione had no idea about where to start.

She stepped out of the shower and onto the fluffy bath mat. She slipped into a casual blue dress, applied make-up and straightened her hair in order to try and hide any grief that may show. Hermione decided that it would be best to look for the police box, although she was at a total loss as to where to start looking. She decided that she would apparate into the tiny village of Hogsmead to have the wizard equivalent of coffee or tea, Butterbeer.

Hermione grabbed a matching clutch before walking into her rental apartment's living room in order to apparate, but when she glimpsed out onto the sidewalk, she saw a large blue police box that she had never seen before. In a flash she was at the main entrance to the small apartment complex running to the police police box across the road. A wooden park bench sat beside the police box and on the bench sat the one who called himself the 'Doctor'. He was twirling some cornflowers between his fingers and was wearing a red fez then looked into Hermione's eyes.

"It's you", said the Doctor.
"Right back at you", said Hermione.

Hermione sat down on the seat beside the strange man where he placed the lovely cornflower in her hair.

"A pretty flower for a pretty lassie."
"Who are you?!"
"I have already told you, I'm the Doctor."
"Doctor who?"
"Just the Doctor."

Hermione gave an exasperated sigh.

"I'm not a muggle. I'm a witch, just like you're a wizard."
"I am not a wizard, but as you seem so well informed, I am the last Time Lord."

Hermione blushed a deep red when he commented on her knowledge, but lost all colour when she heard Time Lord. That species had never come up in studies or in light reading and yet here was a strange wizard who seemed entirely truthful talking about them. The Doctor saw the change in Hermione's expressions and decided that a further explanation was necessary. The Doctor threw caution into the wind and told Hermione everything. Besides, he had just lost his assistants and Hermione seemed sensible, loyal and bright, very bright.

"I come from the planet Gallifrey and can travel between times and universes if I wish. This 'police box' as I assume you call it, is called Time And Relative Dimensions In Space, or TARDIS and it is how I travel to any point in time and space. That is all you need to know for now, so what's your story?

"I don't believe you. It is not possible to time travel and there is no planet called Gallifrey. You are a pathetic wizard or a useless muggle. If you are the latter I must obliviate you. Thanks for rescuing me last night by the way. Oblivi...

"Wait! I can prove it. I don't normally do this but, come into my Tardis."

Hermione was feeling very pleased with herself and also slightly guilty. Of course she believed what that man had said, because ever since she, a muggle, was told about magic, she believed that anything could happen. Hermione had also had first hand experience with time travelling, but she didn't think that the Doctor was wearing a time-turner. She felt guilty because she had already recovered from the loss of Ron and here she was going into a strange place with another man.
The Doctor stood up, stretched, then strode over to the Tardis. He held open the door and followed in after Hermione, closing the door behind them.
