Hermione stood behind the Main Street in Hogsmeade with the Doctor on his hands and knees breathing heavily. It appeared that even Time Lords could feel sick after their first apparition. Hermione helped him to stand up and walk to the nearest bench. Their every step was cushioned by springy green grass and a carpet of violets and daisies and the Doctor felt better in no time at all.

"That is one rough way of travelling."
"Don't worry, you get used to it."

They leisurely strode down the main street with sunshine warming their backs, where the sugary scent of Honeydukes made their mouths water. They passed the Hog's Head leaving the Doctor curiously puzzled as to why everything in this strange world seemed to start with 'Hogs'. At last Hermione and the Doctor reached the old wooden door with 'The Three Broomsticks' sign creaking and flapping above them in the faint breeze.

Just before the Doctor heaved the heavy door open, Hermione told him
"If anyone asks, you are from Durmstrangs and are my parents' friend."
They wrestled the door open and crossed the creaking floorboards to approach the blonde barmaid Rosmerta asking for two Butterbeers. Hermione led the Doctor to a small table furthest away from the door, where no one could see them and judge them.

Rosmerta carried over a tray with two over-filled Butterbeers sloshing about with her ever step. She thumped them on the table top and instantly started flirting with the bewildered Doctor, but Hermione came to the confused Doctor's aid by placing four bronze knuts in her hand and telling her that she was no longer needed there. The Doctor pulled the tiny Tardis out of his brown coat pocket and placed it on the table so that he could 'keep an eye on it.'

"Now tell me about yourself, Hermione."
"Well, I am a witch and can perform magic by using a wooden wand, and can also create potions and basic spells without a wand. I attended Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, which is just up the road, and helped defeat the infamous dark lord, Voldemort. Just ask questions if you are confused about anything, just like I will if I am confused about your Gallafriam..."
"Gallifreyian."
"Life. Sound like a deal?
"Sure."

All conversation ceased when then sturdy entrance door slammed shut. The Doctor grabbed his shrunken Tardis before following Hermione to see what all of the commotion was about. The Doctor saw that a red haired teenager and his girlfriend that was wearing a purple headband were snogging for everyone to see. The Doctor tugged Hermione's hand to get her back to the table, but saw that an unsteady tear was wobbling down her made up face. She stalked over to the boy where she slapped is face with a highly audible 'crack'. He looked up from his display with an angry face to match that of the red mark just placed on his face, but when he saw who it was, he looked sheepish and tried to take his girlfriend away.

"HOW DARE YOU RONALD WEASLEY!! It has been less than one day and this. REALLY!?!"
"You broke up with me, making me free!"
" You're pathetic you snivelling git!"
"Speak for yourself! I see that you are not alone."

The Doctor had walked up behind Hermione and placed a gently hand on her quivering shoulder. He sensed that this was his time to say:

"I am a friend of Hermione's parents. I attended Durmstrang and I am here to talk to her about her Father and his hospital bills as he has taken critically ill. We will sort out these private affairs elsewhere. Good day."

With many pairs of eyes stabbing their backs like knives, they pushed past a guilty looking Ronald exited the premises. The Doctor sensed that some teenage romance had been broken up, hence Hermione's state when he first met her, and that the ex-boyfriend had not felt sorry at all. Hermione looked away from the Doctor and tried to stop the flow of tears and gasping sounds that always came with crying.

"Thank you for that Doctor. You said just the right things."

She grabbed his arm and apparated to a silent lane in London that was void of all life. The Doctor was looking only slightly paled this time, so she instructed the Doctor to place the Tardis on the ground so that she could grow it to its usual size. She mumbled 'engorio' and focused her unsteady hand on the growing Tardis, but stopped when the Doctor said that it was big enough.

"I'm sorry about today Doctor, and I hope to see you soon. I will be off now. Goodbye."

She waved at the Doctor before apparating to her modern apartment living room. She scrubbed of the makeup and drew the patterned curtains before throwing on some lose clothes, going to bed and letting the tears flow freely.
