The group of teens stood up at the sound of their parents calling their names and ignored the officers who were asking them to sit back down as they walked off towards their parents.
Ryuko's father was the first to envelop his daughter in a hug while checking her over for any injuries. Rumi's mom was equally worried as she was on the verge of tears while Rumi stood there awkwardly. The siblings walked over to their parents who both had exasperated expressions on their faces.
"Not even one week with those licenses and you're already proving my point problem children," Aizawa sighed as he ruffled their hair.
Hizashi looked like was going to cry from pride, "Look at my Little Listeners already being heroes!"
"We did what we could to minimize the risk and save Chako as fast as possible without unnecessary injury while still apprehending the criminal in a way that didn't cause any damage to our surroundings," Saya puffed out her chest while smoothing her hair.
Shinso smirked, "Imoto's plan was impeccable as usual."
"I wanted to say thank you on behalf of my family for keeping my daughter and her friends safe," Rumi's Mother came over to say her thanks with a deep bow towards the Aizawa family.
"I as well," Ryuko's Father was quick to join in as the adults began their trading of pleasantries between themselves.
Rumi and Ryuko moved over to where the siblings had stepped off to the side with conflicted looks that did not go unmissed by Saya and Shinso.
"I guess like my Mom said thanks for saving Chako back there," Rumi said before sighing, "I really don't know what would have happened if you guys weren't there."
Ryuko gave a quick thanks before lowering her voice to a whisper, "What was that whole thing with Death Arms and the officers? They were asking us about having fake licenses or something. You guys don't actually have fake hero licenses do you?"
"No we don't have fake hero licenses but we do have these," Shinso flashed the two girls his Provisional License which gained him a swift shin kick from his sister. "What they have a right to know since they were involved."
Saya sighed, "We're not supposed to go flashing them around without permission!"
Rumi and Ryuko stared wide eyed at the siblings for a few good reasons. The first was that those with Provisional Licenses were typically second year hero course students who had undergone extensive training in work studies and camps provided by the school before they could even think about obtaining the license. Two middle school graduates walking around with them was unheard of anywhere including America where it was common for heroes to begin their careers as soon as 19 or 20. The second was that while there were all kinds of ways a hero could look but Shinso looked closer to a ragged homeless man than someone who could fight. Meanwhile Saya looked like a life-sized porcelain doll that would break if you bumped into her with just a little too much force.
"Due to certain circumstances we were allowed to receive our Provisional Licenses early however it doesn't mean we can just go around doing hero work or we risk getting them revoked," Saya clarified.
"Oh that makes a bit more sense," Ryuko decided it was best to leave the matter where it was since it was seemed sensitive based off of Saya's reaction.
"C-can I talk with you alone for a moment," Rumi gestured for the black haired girl to follow her off to the side and she obliged. They ignored the questioning looks from Shinso and Ryuko as they moved away. "How did you manage to move? When it happened all I could feel was this overwhelming fear that made me freeze in place. By the time I snapped out of it you guys were already gone and I was just standing there like an idiot."
"She's conflicted about her determination and ideals, her confidence that she's always gushing out is gone but this is only her first step forward," Saya had expected as much as soon as she saw Rumi's shaky smile in the alleyway. "I was terrified there too, I always am in situations where others could end up injured or worse if I'm not careful of my actions. But I've seen it everywhere I go and I'm sure you've noticed it too. Heroes and police just waiting on the sidelines with the excuse of 'My quirk isn't suited for this' or 'I'm not strong enough'. The moments where if things had been done just a bit differently then people would still be safe and with their loved ones. I'm scared that I'm not fast enough or strong enough to make a difference in those moments where everything matters. But if I too fall into that fear and stand at the sidelines who will be the one to take that single step forward? I've had enough of waiting around for a hero to save people, waiting for a hero to come forward and give hope to others, and I'm especially done being afraid to do anything. So I'm going to be the one to take that step forward even if I'm up against the world itself and I will lose. If I'm too busy hoping someone will show up I'll forget that I'm right there and that I can do everything in my power to save those in front of me."
Rumi nodded and although she was still a bit unsure of where she stood with her own determination and ideals a but of her confidence had been regained after hearing Saya's words. "Thank you Saya."
"Hey do you have a phone?" Saya suddenly asked.
Rumi fished it out of her pocket and put it in her friend's open hand, "Here you go but uh why do you ask?"
Saya quickly put her contact info in and handed back Rumi's phone and looked away to hide the rising heat in her face. "We still have a month before the entrance exams so if you ever want to talk just text me or something."
Rumi smiled as she pocketed her phone with a "mhm" of confirmation before she was called over by her Mother for their departure. "Well until next time Saya!"
"Yeah," Saya did her best to ignore the smirks from her family as she waved goodbye to the rabbit girl.
